The self expression in using game pieces in ways they weren't designed is what drew me in. Now, I started playing magic in 2013, really getting into commander in 2015. So I don't have personal experience with true old school EDH, but I think there was still a lot of that spirit in early Commander.
For ages the balance was this- wizards makes cards for Magic the Gathering. Commander, a fan generated format, chooses how to use them and which cards to use. The problem started when wizards began making cards for *Commander* instead of for Magic the Gathering.

I played my Nazahn deck the other night (called "I put the Ow in Meow"), and realized the old glossy sleeves are almost too sticky to shuffle well, and it's sitting in a cheap Amazon deck box. Definitely deserves an upgrade with some ingenious supplies.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?
