Yesterday the NHS 10 year plan was published.

Proposals to make healthcare local & preventative are welcome, as are plans to make eye care more accessible.

But it comes without a much needed social care plan & there is no distinct policy for people with learning disabilities, unlike past plans.

As it takes on a bigger role over the NHS, we urge government to act on health inequalities experienced by people with learning disabilities, and not to forget the need for community based reforms for eye care – with special schools eye care ready to rollout after a decade of campaigning.

People with learning disabilities and autism cannot be left out of future NHS plans.

There are still more than 2000 people with learning disabilities and autism, like Kasibba, in hospitals when they could be living in the community with the right support. As a society, we have to do better.
