#WhyLearnGerman? A new report by the German Foreign Office, "German as a Foreign Language Around the World", shows increasing uptake in many countries (Colombia, Egypt, India, Kenya, ...) due to better career prospects with German. They're onto something!

On 13 August 1961, construction of the Berlin Wall began.

In the early hours of the morning, barbed wire fences were erected, dividing the city in two and tearing families and friends apart.

The 155 km-long Berlin Wall stood for 28 years.

Troops seal off the border between East and West Berlin in front of the Brandenburg Gate on 13 August 1961.
