Of four certification programs, the Rainforest Alliance (RA) was the most robust as it had strong environmental as well as social and economic alignment when analyzed. Regenerative agriculture and native vegetation cover were two requirements to mitigate the coffee crop for climate change.
Scientists used a gap-analysis for four coffee production sustainability certifications, in order to identify why certifications, fail to address environmental and socio-economic concerns, as well as to pinpoint what should be incorporated in these certifications for future.
