Brought Dandy Cat home to my house after his person passed away. He’s pretty unhappy here in hour one, looking for an escape hatch. Hopefully things will settle down with patience, love, and treats and we can adjust to a new and happy three-cat household.

Anyone else grow up in a family that put the props in malapropism? Growing up with the family vernacular, it sometimes took years to learn what something was really called. Here, then, is a nice photo of a College Squirrel. 🐿️ 👩‍🎓🤓

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme #StareDown here is a female short-eared owl from last month, with a bit of a wind blown look.
The female short-eared owls have darker chest colors in general. This one was keeping a perch in quite a breeze as the sun began to descend on a January afternoon.

I find Short-eared owls to be stunning. And one day I will get a tack-sharp photo of one in flight. Friday, however, was not that day. But you know? Just being there was so uplifting.

Amazing head-turning adaptations.
An owl’s eyes are fixed in their sockets so they have to turn their head to see around. They have extra vertebrae and adaptations to keep blood flowing to their brain when spinning that head around.
