Last week we hosted the South East Undergraduate Medical Education Secondary Care Conference at Maidstone Hospital, bringing together educators, clinicians and students.

The event showcased collaboration, innovation, and excellence in undergraduate medical education throughout the region.

On Armistice Day we remember Sister Marion Vilvandre who trained at the Kent & Sussex Hospital.

She joined the Army Nursing Corps in 1939 & was evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940, later working in Africa.

In November 1942 her ship home was torpedoed & she has no known grave. She was just 31 years old.

Our radiographers use specialist equipment like X-ray machines, CT and MRI scanners and last year delivered around 400,000 imaging tests!

Today is World Radiography Day, when we celebrate their vital contribution to diagnosis & treatment.

Their proactive, person-centred approach helps prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, supports recovery at home, and limits the need for long-term care.

The Intensive Care Unit garden at Tunbridge Wells Hospital helps support the mental & physical wellbeing of our critical care patients.

The garden has reopened following improvements made possible by a generous bequest to the Tunbridge Wells Hospital League of Friends.

Last month, ITV Meridian visited Maidstone Hospital to meet patients who have had life-changing cornea transplants.

Around 6,000 people in the UK are waiting for a cornea transplant and there are calls for more people to join the @nhsorgandonor.bsky.social register.

The Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre team welcomed Health Minister, Karin Smyth MP to the surgical hub's official naming and first anniversary event yesterday.

The centre has cared for almost 3,500 orthopaedic patients since opening in 2024.

Three-year-old Toby visited Maidstone Hospital last week for a procedure involving an anaesthetic.

Our play specialists helped prepare him for his procedure; dressing as a doctor reduced his anxiety & made him feel more involved. He didn’t want to take his costume off, even in the anaesthetic room!

Last year we dispensed over 750,000 prescriptions!

This wouldn't be possible without the vital work of our pharmacy technicians, who prepare and dispense medications, offer advice to patients, manage supplies, and promote the safe and effective use of medications.

Last weekend a group of consultant oncologists conquered the 50km Kent Downs Ultra Challenge, raising nearly £9k for our Kent Oncology Centre, helping ensure we can continue to offer innovative radiotherapy care and treatment. 💙

Our Catering team have won an award for promoting sustainability and reducing food waste.

In just five months, they achieved an 18% reduction in food waste & boosted our recycling rate by an impressive 17%!

✅ The result: a reduction in food waste and savings which can be reinvested in the NHS.
