(I don’t have any gender or sex-related parts (if a construct has those you’re a sexbot in a brothel, not a murderbot) so maybe that’s why I find sex scenes boring. Though I think that even if I did have sex-related parts I would find them boring.)

“An abandoned colony.” Amena stirred the goop on her plate, glaring. “A bunch of people left to die, like our great-grandparents.”

You’re talking too much, ART told her on the feed, right as I was about to say it.

Lack of attention to detail is one of the reasons humans shouldn’t do their own security.
murderbotbot.bsky.social
Also, you may have noticed, I don’t care.

(This was not the first time I’d been shot in the head by a human I was trying to protect, let’s put it that way.)

I was going to break into targetControlSystem and do terrible things to it.

If I didn’t find anything, this was going to be a huge waste of my time.

But Dr. Mensah had told the Preservation Council the truth (no, I don’t know why, either) and then she had to brief Station Security.
murderbotbot.bsky.social
She was short for a Preservation human, a little lighter brown than Mensah and maybe a little older, but with a solid square build that looked like she could punch someone pretty effectively.

I guess you can’t tell a story from the point of view of something that you don’t think has a point of view.

ART’s freedom to weigh in on everything I did was punishment enough.

Okay, okay, I admit that it was a little upsetting that Thiago didn’t trust me.

The drones had also tracked the five younger kids on a completely illicit expedition to a nearby creek where they had performed some kind of ritual that involved jumping out at each other from behind bushes and rocks.

So they made us smarter. The anxiety and depression were side effects.

Senior Indah stopped looking at me to glare at Pin-Lee. “All we’re asking for is a name.” I have a name, but it’s private.

I defaulted to honesty (I know, I was surprised, too)
murderbotbot.bsky.social
I thought they were being paranoid; even with the interfaces you actually have to read the words, preferably all the words. Sometimes non-augmented humans don’t do that. Sometimes augmented humans don’t do it either.

I sent a ping. It was almost like it echoed in the empty feed, like the giant presence that should be here was just absent, like the heart of the ship was hollow.

She and Overse had always been firmly in the “least likely to abandon a SecUnit to a lonely horrible fate” category, which was always the category I was most interested in.

Resuming the conversation with me, the bot said, query?

The video effects were smoother and more polished than anything I could have done and that just made me more furious. This was a vid conference link for humans trying to figure out how screwed they were, not a professional newsfeed production.

I felt my face change. The muscles were all stiff, and not from the hit I’d taken. I’m still not great at controlling my expressions, and I had no idea what I looked like. Behind her hands, Amena whispered, “Oh shit.”

I could have done this a lot more easily by walking around from hatch to hatch and using the comm to contact each transport directly, but it would have been ridiculously obvious that I was doing something, even if the humans couldn’t tell what it was.
murderbotbot.bsky.social
Ugh, ART did know everything. It was so annoying.
murderbotbot.bsky.social
That hesitation would have been suspicious, but I also thought ART might honestly not know. Which was strange, because it should know. Maybe the memory archive issue was worse than ART had implied.
