Gene editing technology began by people studying salt marshes. Ozempic began by folks studying the venom of Gila Monsters. Support for basic science has empowered us to understand our world. Tethering it to applications health has transformed and saved countless lives.

Join us! 🚀 Our lab at the University of Bonn is looking for a PhD student to explore the genetic basis of variation in wing pigmentation #EvoDevo #PopulationGenetics
Our lab is interested in the genetic bases of morphological evolution. We are looking for a PhD student to
work on a new project at the crossroads of Evolutionary Developmental Biology and Population Genetics.
The project aims at identifying genetic determinants in a population of flies (Drosophila), underlying
variation in wing pigmentation. The approach will combine advanced and quantitative phenotypic analysis,
genome-wide association study, as well as molecular and genetic
dissection using transgenesis.
What we offer:
• A 3-year PhD student position starting in spring/summer 2025
• Competitive salary based on 13 TV-L (65%) of German pay scale.
• Extensive research opportunities in a dynamic and collaborative environment at the Bonn Institute
for Organismic Biology of the University of Bonn.
Your profile:
• A Master’s degree in life sciences, with a strong emphasis on molecular biology and genetics
• Experience in genomics and data analysis
• Experience working in a wet lab
• Excellent written and spoken English
Please send the following materials to apply:
- Your Master’s degree and transcripts.
- A detailed CV and contact details of two academic referees.
- A one-page cover letter highlighting your motivation and summarising your research expertise
Send your application by e-mail to Nicolas Gompel (gompel@uni-bonn.de)
Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis, until the position is filled.
