"...momentum for withdrawal from the ECHR is not matched by popular demand... politicians are proposing to amend Britain’s constitutional order in the name of “the people” while ignoring what...people actually want, undoing constitutional safeguards and democratic institutions in the process."
Do British people want to leave the ECHR? What a decade of polls reveals
In the most recent YouGov poll on this issue, 54% of Conservative voters and 72% of Reform voters were in favour of leaving.

The wealthy are by definition taking more than they give. The argument around creating value for others is irrelevant as that's what everyone does from employees to volunteers to benefit spenders. Your net worth shows how much you've sucked out instead of giving back. Sending it abroad is even worse
musicproduction.bsky.social
I boycott the BBC and didn't watch but has anyone confronted wealth-flight alarmists by asking how they'd deal with benefit recipients who send their money abroad? They put all/nearly all their income back into the economy and lose
it if they suck wealth out for themselves.

Looks like a Westminster variant, the sort that would stick its nose into things and start cutting.
musicproduction.bsky.social
I wouldn't say it just does that. Given that it's not a significant addition to the high debt level, I'd posit the economic damage is more the opportunity cost. Then there's the damage to Trump etc. caused by the effect on MAGA allies.

Yes, you changed to a short-term scale. The problem with that is the improbability of the US selling the pesos quickly, which would be counterproductive in propping up the peso. The US would probably come out better less worse off though.

Ah, that makes sense. I was also in the process of arguing with a supposed economist who was talking utter shit and wondered if you were the same person. Apologies if I launched into attack mode quickly but that guy seemed such a deluded egotist.
musicproduction.bsky.social
For all the talk of trade deficits, at least the US received something in return for spending overseas. In this case they've just sent billions and received a currency that's in relentless depreciation.

...refute your assertions. You've added nothing valuable or in the least bit convincing.
musicproduction.bsky.social
No, not at all. That argument is utterly fallacious. What's what is more important than who's who. You seem more political than genuine. I may not share your job title but I've studied economics at a high academic level taught by professors and worked alongside economists, all of whom would...

What sort of an unprincipled 'economist' would argue jobs are created where there's no market FFS! We live in a MONEY-BASED economy. BUSINESSES EXIST TO MAKE A PROFIT. They operate and EXPAND when customers SPEND MONEY.
musicproduction.bsky.social
It's striking that someone claiming to be an economist can confuse Keynesian economics with something so contrary as the Great Depression. Who is 'we' anyway? You seem like an ignoramus.
musicproduction.bsky.social
...otherwise they'd have a negative balance. Those arguing they've created value for others then WTAF are the rest of us doing!
musicproduction.bsky.social
That's why it's ridiculous to treat the poor (including benefit claimants) as more costly than the wealthy. The former need to spend their money, creating jobs, profits, tax revenue etc. By definition the wealthy have sucked more economic value out than they have put in...
musicproduction.bsky.social
The point seems to be that income is low while wealth is being hoarded.

Now for what's really annoying. Economies thrive, state income increases and GDP grows when money circulates (constantly received and spent). Personal wealth siphons value away or, even worse, offshore.

Can you believe I happened to be in New Delhi and didn't see a single white face! Conservatives, make the empire great again!

Hurrah! We could snatch cruise ships from Southampton. Perhaps Andrea Jenkins will provide the onboard shows and treat returning migrants to God Save the King! Let's drop off the foreign cruise staff while we're at it and replace them with prisoners and benefit scroungers to give us British holidays
