I always felt the writing of both FFT and Tactics Ogre make most media that deal with similar themes and setting feel childish by comparison (even more when they try to make up for it by making it "edgy").

probably the focus changed or dropped from the game in development and some elements of it already made being left in the game. Kinda like the final arc of P5 felt so disconnected from the rest of the game story

He most likely have far more freedom for XIV, than XVI, he even stated that he doing the Titan Lost track the way it did was against the higher ups orders, but the development team ended up prefering Soken's take on it. XVI felt like it was fighting being FF vs trying to look GoT-like...
