They can damned sure expect lawsuits. They don't have qualified immunity when they're directly defying court orders.

We need to make these goons understand that their actions today will mean a lifetime of paying back their victims from every penny they ever hope to earn.

The Trump regime will ignore rulings. Don't get discouraged, this is a long game. The courts can't stop this, but they can mete out accountability in time. A federal officer directly defying a court order cannot claim qualified immunity. Quietly document, sue, and in time, take all their stuff.

Johnson is not a stupid man. This is essentially an ad for the No Kings protest, and he knows it. People on the bench will hear him ranting like a tin pot dictator about it, and it will drive them to come out.

Which worries me. It needs to happen, but he is up to something here.

Still, these Roman stellae are generally pretty huge. This thing may easily weigh several hundred pounds. I can't fathom how some grunt could manage to smuggle that all the way back here undetected.

I don't think I'd go that far. He is sane, after all.

That said, Trump can reasonably point to Obama's extrajudicial killing of Anwar Al-Alwaki as precedent for blowing up random boats in the Caribbean. There probably should have been criminal charges for that.

Meh. This is just legalese, and there is some basis for it. Courts say it all the time; for example, Congress has plenary authority to levy taxes and declare war.
