Um, what?

Please explain.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
But I'm not doing that.

Shifting the Overton window world be if I said, e.g. "Don't mention the wealth tax!", but I want them to promote that and other radical policies, but not the "Left" label which I think is not useful.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
You can say whatever you like. I'm obviously talking about the Green party's public promotion of itself. Warning that some labels, "Left" in this case, aren't helpful.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
It may be a fine point, less important than being wary of aligning with Sultana and Corbyn's new party.

And you may not really understand it because it doesn't apply to your situation. But I think it does have an effect on potential recruitment to the Green party cause.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
Of course I know what I'm worrying about. I've been describing it.

Don't, figuratively, wear a big "Left" badge because it might put people off from discovering what your principles and intentions actually are.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
No pal, no lying. Just not wear a label that might put people off from initial engagement. That kind of pragmatism.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
I'm not saying anyone should deny that the Greens are leftist. I'm talking about promotion.

Polanski described how he was engaging with people in Clacton who agreed with him on wealth tax etc, but who voted for Farage. They would most likely be put off by an up front "Left" label.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
I don't quite have the reach to educate everybody.

But as an enticement, for people I can't reach, to look into the Greens I don't think the "Left" label helps.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
No, just don't promote it in that way.

I could be entirely wrong and worrying about nothing of course.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
They are doing that by changing their policies though. I'm not suggesting the Greens do that.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
The label is not necessarily useful in attracting support. It has "baggage" (fairly or not).
nacnudrium.bsky.social
Yes, and I could be wrong about it being much of a problem. But my experience, as a lefty, is that it seemed a relief to align myself with the Greens and detach from the "politics" (although this is all politics) of all that. I think that might apply to others too.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
I don't have a huge number of friends, so yes I could do that (I probably will). But I don't know all the other people who it might put off so it's more practical if the Greens do exactly as I say. 👍
nacnudrium.bsky.social
That's not the case. I want them to be much bolder and get as much support as possible. But I don't think promoting the "Left" label necessarily helps do that. That's all.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
I don't think it's dopey. There are people who don't like the label but agree with principles. People who aren't into "politics". I think it's pragmatic.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
Okay. I just think it might put some people off who might otherwise agree broadly with the green principles.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
No I'm not. I was always left. I'm just saying don't wear a big "Left" badge.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
I've joined the Green party, but please steer clear of all the factional bollocks, and you don't need to declare we're on "the Left" with a capital L. I know people who would be put off. Be distinct. It's the ideas and principles that matter. Thanks.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Alan and his bike gang got me quite emotional. Pedals without a cause. I think it's my age.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
Of course. It's well known that multi millionaires don't do it for the money.
nacnudrium.bsky.social
Okay... And then presumably do something really great with the £47bn?
nacnudrium.bsky.social
Er, "do the right thing".
