I just chose to post 2 of the 3 meals listed. Swiss Steak is tonight's main course.

I have to agree, fresh OJ is best.
As far as dinner, that's for another post. 😁

Toast might be an improvement.
Mash beans, top with grated onions, and spread on plain bread slices for a sandwich. Option to add catsup or chili sauce
nanascookbooks.bsky.social
protein alternative. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My mind did think British when I read through this first.

Soup and Sandwich is a great lunch pairing, especially as we head into Fall. However, I'm not sure about this combination. It is a good reminder that 1943 was a very different time in the kitchen. Let me know your thoughts on this mid-week lunch menu. 🍽️ 🍜 #FoodSky #Cooking #Recipes #Menuoftheday

I had to use my best judgment and went with 2 teaspoons. I know it can be overpowering, so I went in with caution.
It's one of my son's favorite dishes.
My husband said this style was his preferred method if he could have it again.

Worcestershire was a new ingredient for me, but it added a nice zing to the overall flavor.
nanascookbooks.bsky.social
Well, here are the results. I made a couple of minor adjustments. 1.) Lower cooking temp. 2.)Topped with French Fried Onions. Overall, a success. The noodles stayed moist, a bit heavy in tuna flavor but not overpowering. 🍽️ 🍜 #FoodSky #Cooking #Recipes #RecipeOfTheDay
Ingredients for Tuna Noodle Mushroom Casserole. Cooked Tuna Noodle Mushroom Casserole with French Fried Onion topping. This is an 8x8 casserole dish. Close up of the casserole served on a dinner plate with a little fresh cracked pepper.

Cooler temps arrived last night, & as a midwestern gal, that means the casserole dish is out. We might as well start with the Classic Tuna Casserole, thanks to 1975 @joyofcooking.bsky.social. I'm making this tonight, so look for a review later. Share your thoughts below if you'd like. 🍽️ 🍜 #Foodsky

Since no one asked me, let me tell you that I think Mondays need more cake. Specifically, this Red Devil's Food Cake is for this Monday. Why, you ask? Why not, I tell you! Can I interest you in a slice? 🍽️ 🍜 #FoodSky #Cooking #Recipes #RecipeOfTheDay
From 1943, The Modern Family Cookbook by Meta Givens

RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE

2 cups cake four
1 teaspoon soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1½ squares baking chocolate
½ cup butter or other shortening
1½ cups sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup thick buttermilk
½ cup water

Sift flour, measure and resift 3 times with soda and salt. Melt chocolate over hot water (1124); cool. Cream butter until soft and smooth, then add sugar and blend thoroughly. Add beaten eggs and beat until smooth and fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Mix in cooled chocolate. Combine buttermilk and water. Add four and liquid alternately in several portions, beginning and ending with flour and beating until smooth after each addition. Turn into two 8-inch cake pans, lined with waxed paper in the bottom and buttered on the sides, and bake in a moderate oven (350° F.) for 27 to 30 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly pressed with finger tips.
Turn out onto cake racks and cool. Spread when cool with any desired frosting. 10 servings.

At the time of this printing, rationing wasn't in full swing. Sugar had started, but dairy was later on.
nanascookbooks.bsky.social
In the US at this time, they were not rationing that much yet. 1st thing was sugar, and Dairy was later on.
