A5: Music can give all students a voice. I build agency through things like leardership in group work and reflection. Support will grow as they work together by reducing isolation and increasing the connection with one another. #TeacherEd#SafeSchools
A4: Music class is the perfect space to combat things like harassment and bullying. This is why creating a space that all feel free and comfortable expressing themselves is so important. I make sure ALL my students understand this and how to create such a space. #TeacherEd#SafeSchools
A3: Our school has been extremely proactive in promoting a positive environment. Even if it's just having a class parade around the school while all the rest of the school cheers them on for whatever it is they need to face. #TeacherEd#SafeSchools
I try to build trust with families with as much communication as possible. I collaborate with colleagues to help promote music therapy as much as possible. #TeacherEd#SafeSchools
A1: I really emphasize how my number one rule in the classroom is respect. For the instruments, people in charge and each other. I have them encourage each other all the time. I foster the belief of it's okay to put yourself out there. You will ALWAYS be supported. #TeacherEd#SafeSchools
A5: Music K-4. I use emails. I have a google classroom as well although nobody has really used it. It also gets tricky due to a language barrier for many of the parents. I make a point to interact as much as possible during concerts/graduation to establish a face with them. #TeacherEd#EdTech
I am a firm believer in the fact that you should NEVER stop learning at any age. I literally make my students learn that phrase. I use myself as an example all the time to them. I always point out how I'm still learning even in my 60s. #TeacherEd#edTech
As an older educator, I feel sometimes there are challenges of feeling inferior when it comes to technology. But personally, I have always approached it as a wonderous tool. Most of the time, I am fine with it. There are many resources and opportunities using technology that were never possible.
A3: Collaboration with my colleagues in my building is done in person. However I am the only music teacher in the building. I do have someone (my mentor) who is in another building in another town. We text, email and call often. We also try to meet in person #TeacherEd#EdTeach
A2: I have the barrier that I do not have any laptops or chromebooks in my room. I am currently considering proposals for next year or the year after to change that situation. I also considered a proposal for at least a smart board. Music K-4 #TeacherEd#EdTeach
A1: k-4 music. I use technology as much as I can although I am very limited in what technology is currently in my room. I can project my computer to a small tv screen that’s it. #TeacherEd#EdTeach
Growth mindset is so incredibly important not only to our students but to ourselves. We set an example every day that we are in the classroom. Learning together is always a very positive thing. We should grow right alongside our students.
A5 #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset Positive thinking is always been a part of who I am. I will continue to share that with my students as well as the concept that you never stop learning and improving yourself at ANY age. I will continue to look for even more ways to express that.
A4 #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset So many students fear the test as “I don’t want to get a bad grade”. I frequently use assessments and say this isn’t for a grade. I just need to see where you are. I will use assessments as practice. We do this until you get them all right. Practice makes perfect.
A3 #TeacherEd#GrowthMindset I definitely can influence their mindset using the power of “yet”. I keep my focus very positive. I much prefer positive reinforcement. I want then to know that mistakes are a good thing. This is how we learn. Do not be afraid of mistakes.
I try to create an environment where mistakes are welcomed and supported by those around you. This way allowing for risk taking to occur. I show others overcoming challenges to accomplish their tasks. I use positive feedback to keep encouragement going.
A1#TeaherEd#Growthmindset The power of “yet” is strongly suggested and looked for with our administration. Mindset can play such a powerful part in learning and development. It creates wonderful opportunities for learning and more
Our school definitely promotes the encouragement of fellow students. I feel that is such a huge portion. I take those policies and incorporate them even further.
By involving the entire class to support one another, I feel that I am not only helping those students with disabilities, but getting the other students to become aware and to help everyone.
