Am being forced to deal w/boxes of old stuff this weekend. Past Nancy kept ALL papers/things ever but maybe we sent more cards/letters/notes back in the day? Either way, this floppy disk says a lot abt data storage in the 1990s. Initials are NPR & they're stickers. Crap.doc is insightful, I'm sure.

Cats won! I got good live music, catching up with friends, and I can watch the recording with no stress!

More books in the mail & cookies from a neighbor have things looking up. Six grad projects to go & a couple of stragglers with outstanding assignments for other classes. I think I might make it? Happy Friday, y'all!

At the negotiating stage already... if I grade three more grad papers, I can get a snack/drink.
But I have not graded three more grad papers... or even one. I did manage to delete a bunch of work emails and clean up the kitchen, so at least there's that.

Comment I just added to a grad paper: It's a good idea to avoid the entirety of human history as a reference point for a graduate project.

Checked campus mail to find a new book (Gaddy/Giddens "Go Back and Fetch It" on early Black fiddle/banjo music) & a really nice thank you note from a student! Pretty sure opening an email can't bring that kind of joy.

Only downside of the new MacBook Air (cf ill-advised drink spilling re: old MBP) is that it has 512 gb hard drive & old MBP has 1 tb. So setting up from a Time Machine backup of the old one isn‘t quite mathing.

Didn't do a particularly good job teaching grad Intro to Music Research (2nd time, way more students than expected, planning, etc. etc.) BUT I sure did a bang up job wrapping it up tonight. Some individual & group reflections & feedback plus a potluck (tiramisu! whipped feta!).

Lots of great options but I bought “The Hours Are Long, But the Pay Is Low: A Curious Life in Independent Music” by one of the founders of Bloodshot Records, Rob Miller. Got to talk to him quite a bit for my research & can’t wait to read!

A bluetooth mouse is the latest fix - trackpad is dead. Temporary? Yes. But I can use my laptop now, so I'll take what I can get.
We’ve been on borrowed time, it seems. The cursor has disappeared & trackpad isn’t working even after multiple restarts.
Wonder how bad is it to use the work laptop for all personal things until say… Black Friday or so? 🤔

iPad bluetooth keyboard is inexplicably stuck on two numbers so when it’s paired & you try to type… it’s 6-7 over and over again like a ghost gen alpha playing a trick

Just knocked out a task I've been putting off for weeks. It required a phone call but was super easy & took less than 5 minutes.
Will I do some other task quicker now? No.
Did I learn anything from this experience? Also no.

Started out today with the Education section workshop & then heard one of my diss committee members/grad school profs (Dr Kidula) give a section keynote that was lovely & brilliant! Also managed to watch some college football #SEM2025
