Three main reasons for this. A useful study for GPs
Pragmatic prescribing: why GPs offer beta-blockers for anxiety, despite guideline gaps.

📈 Prescribing of propranolol for anxiety has increased in UK primary care, even though national guidelines don’t recommend it.

This new study asked GPs why. 🧵

Washing hands and wiping down surfaces will not do much to protect children from a deadly, highly infectious, airborne virus. Vaccinate and ventilate.
While infection control and cleaning is always a good thing, it’s not going to cut it for measles. Measles is airborne and highly contagious. The best approach is vaccination, and local infection control should focus on ventilation and air cleaning www.theguardian.com/society/2025...
Nurseries in England bring in Covid-style protocols as measles cases rise
Staff deploy infection controls and step up cleaning as cases pass 500 for year to date and after one child dies

Unfortunately, there’s no funding yet for these roles. One GP told us: “We have to literally create the spaces where we want to work.”

How could GPwER be more accessible?

...GP locums especially need to be actively involved from the outset – ensuring these new neighbourhood systems genuinely understand, integrate, and value the unique flexibility, skills, and perspectives locums bring to the NHS front line.
"...objections have been around for many years, preceding the advent of their adoption of Physician Associates. Indeed, it was a doctors-only GMC that made this decision.
So to repeat the same exercise ... and expect different results may not be the wisest solution."
GPs fortunate enough to have jobs are overworked, potentially leading to inefficiencies and underperformance. Meanwhile, those without jobs are left in limbo, jeopardizing their well-being and the future of general practice itself.
