Bookish mother of two, English teacher and tutor, always on the lookout for kindred spirits! Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world. -- L.M. Montgomery

These are all great! Somehow, I've never read Phantom Tollbooth! 🤦‍♀️

One of my closest friends named her daughter after Iris Murdoch! I have to give this a try even if we don't select it for the club!

💙📚🖋️ I need some book club recommendations for fun fall reads! In the past we've read Happy Medium by Sarah Adler and The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman for spooky autumnal fun! 🍂🎃✨ #bookclub #bookrecommendations

I'm so sorry! And I hope those kids are okay! As a teacher, I hesitate to blame the teachers. There's likely more depth to an issue widespread enough to change nationwide policies. But, best of luck to your kiddos!

I'm so sorry to hear that! ❤️

Many of these skills are learned in Family and Consumer Sciences, Agriculture, and Technology classes under Career and Technical Education. They haven't been funded properly and in some, practical life skills have been cut to make way for "pathways" or career focused courses, such as culinary arts.

I'm out of the classroom for now with my two young kids, but my thought process is still very IB informed! I would love to teach ToK someday!

That's a great point! I wonder, though, about the dawning understanding that even those "in power" in IWHNKM are actually pawns and as powerless as herself and the commentary on humanity as a whole, especially in connection with Stranger or Macbeth.

I love the idea of a discussion around fate here as well, which is discussed at length in both! I feel like it could still work really well with Macbeth too!

Such a beautiful text! ❤️

It's very short and free on Audible!

Oooh! Yay! Please get back with me once you've read it! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

If you have any ideas about how they could work together, I'd love to hear them! :)

I love teaching The Stranger. I taught it in IB Literature year 1 and in 10th honors with Macbeth, particularly exploring the theme of power/powerlessness.
After reading I Who Have Never Known Men, another text in translation, I wonder if it could better serve to replace or to supplement Camus. 💙📚🖋️

I have some recommendations!
Let's Play White by Chesya Burke
Grace Notes by Bernard MacLaverty (just over 1000 reviews)

Also, A Council of Dolls by Mona Susan Power, which has more than 1000 reviews but is not as viral as it should be!

I added several of these to my TBR! Thanks! ❤️

My slowest reading month, but some really good, timely, and thought provoking texts! #booksky

I just added to my TBR! Would this be a good book club pick for fall? Does it make for good discussion?
