The leaves are turning 🍂 and it’s getting cold in eastern Ukraine, so the Hachiko team is out making sure the feeders are filled & the cats displaced by war and living in the skeletons of buildings have food today. 😺

Ukrainian dog and cat sharing a meal from the Hachiko team today. Displaced by war, but still so well behaved!

If you don’t get the Hachiko newsletter, here are some recent updates from the front lines in Ukraine (you can also subscribe here). There’s some good news to share as well! 👉 mailchi.mp/hachikofound...

Ukrainian dogs lining up to get food from the Hachiko team in Sloviansk, eastern Ukraine. This area is under regular attack from Russia, and yet the homeless dogs remain so well behaved. 🐕🐕🐕

Saturday breakfast in Izium, eastern Ukraine. These cats live in the destroyed home, and come running when the Hachiko team brings food. They are big fans of the donated Purina food.

Last night, Russian drones hit the home of our Hachiko co-founders Katya & Sergey. The main house survived, but the dog houses & garage all burned. Miraculously, their dogs are alive 🙏 and being treated at the vet for shock. Please keep them in your thoughts today. 💛💙

19,546 Ukrainian children have been abducted by Russia—disappeared, brainwashed & even put into military training to fight against Ukraine. It’s pure evil.
But we can take action to bring them home. Support orgs like Save Ukraine and get involved here 👉 releasethekids.com

Happy Caturday from Masha, who lives in the town of Kamianka in eastern Ukraine. Very few families have returned here due to the destruction and mines, so when the Hachiko van arrives, the cats & dogs come running to greet the team. 🐱🇺🇦

Yesterday, Russia fired a cruise missile directly into an apartment building in Dnipro, Ukraine’s 3rd largest city. The Hachiko team jumped into action to bring food & water to pets who were displaced after the attack. Grateful for their quick work 🙏

Refilling the Hachiko feeding stations in Izium in eastern Ukraine! Although this city is slowly coming back to life after occupation, it’s still close to the front line and remains heavily destroyed. So many dogs & cats live outside with their homes & families gone. Orikhiv, Ukraine. Just a few miles from the front line, there are more displaced pets than people here now 😢 Our Hachiko team comes to (quickly) drop off food for remaining residents to distribute. Buildings are often still burning from recent artillery attacks.

Blue = the free sky.
Yellow = the free land.
Together = Ukraine.
Happy Ukrainian Flag Day, big and small! 🇺🇦

Now that’s a big Ukrainian dog! The Hachiko team treated Kurt 🐕 in the city of Sloviansk, which is under increasing attack as Russia tries to take more of the Donetsk region. It’s not clear how long we will be able to keep operating here.

A special Caturday: Happy 10th birthday to Jinx Furdinand 🥳 Top photo from when he first came home from the rescue shelter 😻

Update on this since many asked: cats who lived in this apartment complex are starting to return after the missile attack. Tatiana (in blue) lives here and is taking care of them in the courtyard. Alena brought food and medicine for her, and we will keep visiting.

Raya couldn’t believe we would give her cat food for free. We will help repair her windows & keep bringing food. Raya used to live with her granddaughter, but she was killed in another Russian bombing last year. 😔

Instead of posting a cute Ukrainian cat for #InternationalCatDay, I want to share the reality of what the Hachiko team faces. After a huge missile strike in Kramatorsk, Alena went to help & met 90 year-old Raya, who miraculously wasn’t hurt, but could only find 2 of her 8 cats.

Today, Russia bombed the train station in Lozova, where I spent time in eastern Ukraine. This is what remains of the warming center/wifi spot we helped setup a couple years ago. Children were injured. There is no justification for this—just yet another evil attack on civilians.

Sunday lunch at one of the dog homes we installed for now-homeless pets in eastern Ukraine! These were handmade locally in Kramatorsk for the Hachiko team, and they are set up in areas where there’s no indoor shelter.

Despite regular Russian bombings, Natalia has stayed in Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine caring for 43 cats and 3 dogs. She has rescued them off the street throughout the war, and Alena from Hachiko brings food to help—with your support. 🙏

Look who was waiting for us at one of the Hachiko feeding stations in a frontline Ukraine town.

Now that’s a happy Ukrainian dog! This is Artem, who turned his home in Sviatohirsk, eastern Ukraine, into a shelter for abandoned animals. He takes care of over a dozen dogs—they are all excited when the Hachiko team arrives with food deliveries. 🐶

Saturday breakfast delivered by the Hachiko team in the frontline areas of Kherson and Donetsk in Ukraine. It’s getting more dangerous due to huge numbers of Russian drones attacking civilians, but we will keep doing what we can to help these little ones.

The Hachiko Vet Van 🚐 was in Izium, eastern Ukraine today. Here are some of the pets they treated in the liberated city less than 30 miles from Russian invaders. The spiky one is a cat, not a porcupine.
