Lots of factors impact confidence with numbers, gender shouldn't be one of them.

Sadly, our data from thousands of #NationalNumeracyChallenge users backs-up an undeniable link between the two.

“I spent a lifetime refusing to accept any responsibility around numbers and maths.”

We know that confidence is the dominant factor in improving numeracy skills. That’s why it’s so powerful to hear someone as well-known as Jamie sharing his story so openly.

The celebrity chef, 50, was forced to close 22 of his Jamie's Italian restaurants in May 2019 - causing a loss of 1,000 jobs after profits plunged.

We’ve dived into the Number Heroes Competition archive to prove that all jobs need numeracy!

Firefighters, hotel workers, video game testers…even professional pizza professors 🔍🔢
Image shows a child's drawing on the Number Heroes Competition entry worksheet. 5 year old Ayan has drawn a fire engine and a house half covered in flames, with a firefighter walking towards it. In the text he shares how numbers are part of this job, including the amount of water needed to extinguish the flames! Image shows a child's drawing on the Number Heroes Competition entry worksheet. 7 year old Muhammad has drawn a hotel clerk at a desk surrounded by stick people symbolising guests he would need to check he has enough space for! Image shows a child's drawing on the Number Heroes Competition entry worksheet. 8 year old Zainab has drawn lots of pictures to show us how a video game tester would use numbers, including tables to show how many games were played on each day of the week! Image shows a child's drawing on the Number Heroes Competition entry worksheet. 10 year old Cara has drawn a red-headed pizza professor dressed in a frilled apron. We can see four different pizzas on the counter and customers waiting for them - a very successful business in the making!

🐾 Happy #InternationalCatDay! 🐱

We've crunched the cat stats – and they’re paws-itively fascinating… 😻

🐈 Your maths doesn’t have to be purrfect to enjoy these stats.

#CatStats #Cats #FunWithNumbers
Paw-some Cat Stats! It's International Cat Day- Let's talk numbers 63% of cats in the UK are moggies (aka mixed breeds!) Fun fact: No two moggies are exactly alike! 12.5 million cats live in UK homes - that's nearly 3 in 10 households! More and more people are talking about dyscalculia, including some familiar faces!

Did you know that Cher and Robbie Williams are among them? 🎤🌟

We couldn't be happier that awareness of this long under studied learning difficulty is growing.

Image of Cher with text taken from the new article featured on the National Numeracy website.

Text reads: As a child Cher couldn't keep up with school lessons – in her autobiography, The First Time, she described how "math was like trying to understand Sanskrit."

It wasn't until Cher took her son to a testing centre, where she learned that he had dyslexia, that she was asked about her own experiences.

In 2011 a fan asked Cher, "if you could turn back time and change one thing would it be to not have dyslexia?”, to which she said, "No! It caused pain, but it's me!" Image of Larry Mullen Jr with text taken from the new article featured on the National Numeracy website.

Text reads: Larry Mullen Jr. is an Irish musician, best known for being the drummer and co-founder of the band U2. In December 2024 he revealed to the Times that he has dyscalculia.

"I'm numerically challenged. And I realised recently that I have dyscalculia […] so I can't count [and] I can't add."

It even affects him on stage, as he told the Times: "When people watch me play sometimes, they say, 'you look pained.' I am pained because I'm trying to count the bars. I had to find ways of doing this – and counting bars is like climbing Everest." Image of Meera Syal with text taken from the new article featured on the National Numeracy website.

Text reads: In 2023, he award-winning comedian, actor, novelist, and BAFTA Fellowship recipient Meera Syal shared her experiences with dyscalculia, and the struggles that come with a lack of awareness around it.

Posting on X, she wrote: 'Maths made me cry-I was a hard working kid with straight As in arts subjects-no amount of "studying" helped. Now I know I have Dyscalculia. My maths teacher just called me stupid. Every kid has different glorious gifts. Find them-encourage them-watch them fly.'
