There's a teacher's strike in Alberta and I am considering advertising myself as a safe, regulated companion to offer respite to parents with higher needs children. I used to tutor and could offer that as well but I was thinking of just being more of a grown-up friend who's safe and different too.

I wanted to like it! I really did. I had to travel there for work much more often than other cities and I just grew to dread it because I never felt safe or welcome - feelings I didn't struggle with in other travels for work or leisure. I don't know what it was but it just felt so socially frozen.

I've noticed this where I live as well. I used to enjoy driving but now I tolerate it as a necessary evil and I am genuinely becoming afraid to get behind the wheel, depending on circumstances and mood.

It's a much too expensive, aggressive, and soulless place to spend time in on purpose. Toronto was not a friendly place. It's like New York without anything fun. I have found things to love in most places I've been but Toronto just seems like high density and stress for nothing.

I've travelled quite a bit and I'd never return to Toronto. I didn't find anything to love about it and I love a lot of big cities.

This rings a little hollow to someone who lost their employment to be replaced by AI after getting an advanced higher education and winning awards for her contributions to that very business. Fuck me though, right? (I am an economist... The irony.)
