There's a fix for this!

Basically, Proton tries to make a folder called "compatdata" in every steam library folder, but there's files in there with names that won't work on NTFS.

The fix is making a link called "compatdata" inside the library folder that points to any folder on the Linux drive!

A screenshot showing how to create a link in Nemo, the default file browser for Linux Mint Cinnamon.

While holding down the "Alt" key, the "compatdata" folder is dragged from a Steam library folder on a Linux (ext4) drive to a Steam library folder on a Windows (NTFS) drive.

Any folder on an ext4 drive will work, using the existing "compatdata" folder is just a convenient example that keeps everything in one place!

If you click and drag a folder somewhere while holding Alt, you can pick "Link Here" to create a link to it.

Alternately, you can do it with the terminal, like in this section here: github.com/ValveSoftwar...
