Foggy morning inside & out. Juicing soft pears with a few sticks of cinnamon & some allspice berries. Spiced pear jelly on the cards as well as juice.
A stainless steel drum juicer on a table surrounded by curing winter squash bottles of juice & plants with foggy windows

I couldn't get over the number of wasps slumbering under the onduline I took off the sheep shed. Lots of them, big queens who were mardy at being evicted. Yours must have all come down here

oh no, that's heartbreaking. I don't blame you ☹️

Still, calm & bright. The sunlight this morning has a golden quality, catching the turning autumnal tree leaves. It has been a good year for marigolds - such valuable plants. I have had a great yield from a packet of mixed Calendula & Tagetes. I hope they all set seeds & return

My first time trying them (the tree is only 3 years old) & they are superb.

Lord Burghley 🍎. The crunchiest, sweet & juicy dessert apple I have ever eaten! Found growing as a seedling at Burghley House, near Stamford 1834. Distributed by John House, Peterborough nurseryman 1865. Popular Victorian variety that stores well. I got my tree from here: applesandorchards.org.uk

We have found ourselves struggling & have had to set up a JustGiving page to help towards farrier, fencing, hay, vets bills & supplies: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding...

We’d be so thankful for any help towards our goal!

We are so grateful for your support 🐏🐎

no tripe for me either & only occasional rabbit (my granny always threatened to eat our pet one). Bubble & squeak, toad in the hole & crumbles are regulars in this house but now I fancy pea soup & a good, sticky, jam roly poly.

I thought I heard purring by my ear. Little cat rudely woken from her slumbers, wedged on the back of the chair behind my shoulder💤

next to nothing here. A tiny sprinkle. I am actually glad as I have a final hay delivery on Monday to get into the barn & with our heavy clay I could do without a quagmire. I hope you haven't washed away!

Despite the forecast for heavy rain here we had about 3 drops so the day turned out better than expected.

Sun dried pears! In early summer a branch of my Conference pear laden with small fruit snapped off. I collected the fruit in a bucket & popped them in a sunny spot out of the rain & completely forgot about them. Rather than rot, the hot dry summer has given me tiny dried pear decorations ✨️🍐
