My new venture and account. Please go over and follow @reelobscurepod, as I'm not posting under this account any more. And also check-out the latest episode, available on all the usual streaming platforms (except Apple ones because Apple hates my PC apparently...)
It's time to explore the hellish heights of Seventies Satanic Cinema in today's episode, the 1975 action horror road movie, RACE WITH THE DEVIL!

My new podcast.

Enjoy, warts and all.
So here's Episode 1 of REEL OBSCURE. You can listen to it on Spotify (although of course somebody beat me to the name...), on YouTube, Substack and Patreon (for free.)

Oh for sure. Given it's about psychologists observing behaviors I'm sure it was a deliberate stylistic choice to direct that way, and like you say differentiate from the grand gothic style of Hammer and Amicus.
Agreed. And like I say there's a clinical, almost documentarian style to the way it's all shot and presented. It's cold and stark and detached in a very odd way, from the opening titles and music to the execution of each story. Which I assume is intentional given the subject matter.
Agreed. Not sure how "let's have a guy possessed by a ghost through a time travelling penny-farthing" and "let's have a guy wanting to shag a tree" can somehow become so chilling.
Just picked up a copy on the cheap on DVD. My player will upscale it. 😆
It's so weirdly oddball but also shot in such a sterile, cold way. Almost like Cronenberg at times, odd as that might sound. Not at all a cozy watch like the Amicus movies.
Really nice volumes available for around $12 at Barnes and Noble and Books A Million. Classic tales from the usual suspects. Highly recommended.

Seriously, I'm in. It'd be a good way to raise awareness and get another round of support.
We should all do it. I will.
That's some Dune level shit there.
Keats, Mr Bridger's right-hand man, was played by Noel Coward's partner.
There's a BBC adaptation from the 80s that's much, much, MUCH closer to the novel. Highly recommended.
As my voice is knackered thanks to hay fever and summer colds and I can't sound even worse than normal, I'm doing the background work for my upcoming podcast, including setting up a Bsky account. Feel free to follow along for updates:

Shining a spotlight on the wonderfully weird world of cult cinema and film fantastique, each episode features discussions of a lost, obscure non-mainstream movie you need to see. https://substack.com...

This is how you do a heist thriller. Lighthearted enough to be constantly entertaining but with high enough stakes to ramp up the tension when it needs to.
Oh cool! I've use Patreon in the past and was considering it (for free episode with an eye to Patron content later it it takes off) but I'm still working on finding a platform for the episodes and this could be an option. If I ever get a bloody chance to record them!
I was thinking of starting a blog for the podcast hay fever and Summer colds seem to be conspiring together to stop me from recording... I may look at Substack as a centralized platform...
Oh that looks fun. I'll sign up and subscribe and that (once I get a minute between bloody real life nonsenses...)
