I just realized something. I'm not sure I've seen any "introduce yourselves" posts. Is that happening on lists or within specific communities?

Anyway, I'm Neil. I'm a dad, and angler, and a small business owner. New Dawn Tackle Co. and The Cottage Chronicles podcast are my passion projects.
#hello
It took 5 months, 3 attempts to record, and an absolute grind of a season to get here. I'm stoked to have a new episode out, and I hope it does the stories and characters justice.

Third time's a charm, right? I missed my Halloween release date so I could tell this story just the way I wanted to. The Cottage Chronicles: Episode 15 - Lost & Found is coming later this week, and I could not be more excited!

No luck today, but the view was nice. Not pictured here: the mink who came to fish with me midway through the day.
#Skunked again, but I had a couple of near misses with what looked like big brookies... Iikely fallfish or bows, but I was in a good brook trout area so that's the story I'm going with.

This #flyfishing routine feels like it has a steep learning curve.
Lunch break fishing mission was a bust. I love this spot, because there's never anyone else there. However, I'm beginning to think that's a sign.
Alright #flyfishing fiends in the northeastern US, what flies are you tying on this weekend? What are you catching - bows, browns, brookies, etc.?

I haven't had much luck on spinning gear the past couple weeks. Hoping the new fly rod produces. It casts beautifully.
One or two steps ahead of me... Currently untangling a bird's nest thatbI created when trying to reverse the retrieve on my old reel and re-spool it

I'm glad to hear it!

Luckily for me, the leaves have been really coming down this week. I'll have great visibility to make sight fishing for trees a real possibility. 😉
Target acquired! Now to get back to catching trees.
Truthfully, I've been dragging my feet on upgrading from my old glass rod for a few weeks. Didn't expect this to be the catalyst, but it must be a sign.
Oof indeed. To top it off, I got skunked at two different spots.
The Fallfish is one of my favorite oddball/bycatch species and one that's been on my shortlist to catch this Fall. Stoked to have found one during my lunch break today. Now to catch one on a fly!
Rainbow trout as bycatch when I'm after largemouths... I believe this is the definition of a happy accident.
It's the most wonderful time of the year. 🎶

Any other pickerel fans out there? I caught this one on a white spinnerbait with the tail end of one of my swimbaits as a trailer.

As temps cool, I plan to get back to bait making and targeting big pickerel (at least a few inches bigger than this one).
Once in a while, a plan comes together. I've been eying this grass bad since last season, but I've only been able to catch big panfish and a few small pickerel nearby. Today, the Willowvibe and Diezel MinnowZ combo changed that!🎣🤙
The scale says this bad boy was just 1 lb. 1 oz. I do not believe it for a second. I was catching 1.5 lb. fish smaller than this last month. I'm calling this one an easy 2 - 2.5. It's the longest bass I've caught this season by far. Pic 2 is the jig and trailer that got the job done.

I'm pleased to reveal a new part of the site that is currently still in progress. All of my products are already sorted by product type and target species. Starting today, you'll see many of your favorite products sorted by technique too!
The sun has been brutal lately, so I turned to the shade in search of a bite. The big bass were hiding in the pads, but I had fun with the little ones hiding under the road. The 5 in. Senko got the job done.

Bass were deep and bites were pretty slow today.

On the bright side, I'm still being haunted by a Mepps Black Fury (see past podcast episodes). I'll blame the curse for the slow fishing. It was nothing like this on Saturday. Surely, it's no coincidence.
Taking my dad to my favorite #kayak #fishing spot this morning. Hoping to get into some more fish like this beauty from Saturday.
Any #fishing enthusiasts or #gearheads out there have a favorite washer cutting method?

I bought pre-cut Carbontex washers, but I'd like to make my own in the future. Not trying to mass produce. I want these for my personal reels. Bonus points if you find a low-dust method that's not a hole punch.
I've been practicing for this moment since June. I got spooled by a tree last weekend trying to retrieve a fancy new jerkbait on a phenomenally bad cast. 🤡🫣🎣

Enjoy your weekend and tight lines!
