hot take: the BoM is one of the most complex gov. websites with a ridic number of data and systems used by industry, the public and other gov agencies so redesigning it and fixing the security issues was always going to take a fair bit of $$$

this reminds me of an argument I had with some tech dude when I said social media needs to be moderated properly. He said that was "impossible to do at scale" and I'm like it's not "impossible at scale" it's just that tech companies don't want to pay for it, and we haven't made them. It's a choice
re: roblox dude's interview crashout. the thing he wants to say but can't is "at scale, kids are gonna get hurt. that is the price for scale." the thing nobody wants to say out loud is "maybe scaling to a level where harm isn't manageable is bad, and scale should be contained"

NEW: a contractor is paying random people $300 to physically track immigrants for ICE. They're given addresses, vehicles, told to monitor the target. That information then goes back up to ICE. These are not licensed private investigators; members of the public

Ninajirachi started making music because of YouTube. Now she’s up for eight Aria awards
The 26-year-old’s debut album I Love My Computer has already netted her some of Australia’s most prestigious prizes – and it’s all about the delight and depravity of growing up on the internet

The short answer is no. We’re around the middle of the pack, and a little further down the list after accounting for our relatively high incomes.
Are Australians really paying more for electricity than other countries?
Australia’s electricity prices have gone up a long way over the past decade or so, but global energy trends have also pushed up bills in other countries

It is very funny that this Pope is just going to get jerseys from now on. Everyone decided that's what this Pope likes and that is it. It's like if your grandmother got you a puzzle for Christmas one year and you said you liked it so your entire extended family is like "oh that's the puzzle kid"
Spike Lee just blessed Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey during his visit to the Vatican, just one week after the Pope was gifted a custom Chicago Bulls one.

There are thousands of things like this in tech. Why is search bad in Gmail. Why does Bluetooth suck. Why are most streaming apps bad. Why is file transfer still annoying. Every day it feels like I've got random issues with tech stuff while these companies sink billions into AI
if microsoft just made outlook search not suck they'd see triple the productivity gains of any AI integration
