In Sicily, Fratelli d'Italia appears to be deliberately destabilising the regional government, which it is part of, perhaps in an attempt to unseat Governor Renato Schifani (Forza Italia). Evidently, FdI feels in a strong position in the event of early elections.

She is the first female Italian police officer to die on active service, on 19th July 1992, one of the five members of Judge Paolo Borsellino's protection team who die with him that day in the via D'Amelio bomb attack in Palermo.

In 2024 left-wing grouping AVS put her up as candidate in Italy for European Parliament elections & she was elected. This gave her immunity & she was released by Hungarian authorities. Orbán's government requested European Parliament to remove her immunity but it was rejected by a margin of 1 vote

There are conflicting (obviously) versions of what did or didn't happen & anyway the case hardly started in court. Orbán & his government describe her as a "member of a terrorist group", so it's difficult to see how she'd get a fair trial in Hungary, where the judiciary are heavily conditioned >>

She's a left-wing activist arrested in Budapest in February 2023, accused (with others) of attacking a group of neo-Nazis. The case got publicity in Italy in December 2023, when she was brought into court in Hungary in chains & complained of inhuman treatment in prison >>

Not the same reasoning as Berlusconi. Orbán's Hungary is nothing like Italy. I would not send anybody, left-wing or right-wing, to be tried in Hungary under the present régime.

It is a sign of where we are that I saw a video of a devastated apartment on here today while scrolling and, for the first few seconds, thought I was seeing one of those raided by ICE in Chicago until it became clear that it was one hit by a Russian drone in Ukraine.

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America
