We reviewed research into how AI tools supporting clinical decisions are used in healthcare settings, focusing on tools that get results from algorithms trained on data. We suggest ways to strengthen this area of research. Full paper: ths.im/4nejsHt THIS summary ths.im/47X71v4@nielspeek.bsky.social
Most healthcare AI tools aren't used in everyday practice. We wanted to find out why. We reviewed recent research & found most studies focused on what clinicians think, rather than infrastructure/implementation pathways. Full paper: ths.im/4nejsHt THIS summary ths.im/47X71v4@nielspeek.bsky.social
How can we use AI & digital technology to support health systems & deliver the benefits outlined in the 10 Year Health Plan for England? @nielspeek.bsky.social sees potential to reduce time spent on admin, but we need high-quality evidence to support its effective use. Read more: ths.im/3GouCcE
We welcome publication of the new 10-year health plan. We're here to build evidence in line with the plan through projects like: • Evaluating ambient voice technology and launching a new online community • Supporting design and planning of large-scale change programmes Find out more: ths.im/4laMCq3
Do you take part in cancer multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings as part of your job? We would love to hear your views on these meetings, and how they can be improved.
I think it's fair to say that we don't know whether this is indeed feasible, and adds value (by preventing trials that would have failed anyway). Time will tell.
In my opinion, this makes perfect sense and can potentially avoid a lot of failed trials. But I don't think digital twins can ever replace clinical trials. In-silico trials should sit before clinical trials on the translational pathway.
The concept of Digital Twins is now being explored in healthcare technologies engineering, in particular whether they can have a role in the translational pathway for new technologies. The idea is that we test the design of a new in vivo medical device before it is actually built.
Hi @janekohara.bsky.social, belated reply to this post. Digital twins are an established methodology in engineering (e.g. aviation), used to evaluate and stress-test new designs in a virtal environment before they are manufactured and tested in the real world.
What does taking a holistic approach to improving healthcare look like? In this episode @kristinawk.bsky.social, #THISFellows Graham Pullin, Kurannen Baaki & @nielspeek.bsky.social explore pushing boundaries in research & learning from other disciplines to problem solve. Listen now ths.im/3YHQRQX
We’re happy to announce funding from the National Institute for Health & Care Research @nihr.bsky.social for a 5-year programme evaluating health & care innovations. Our first study will look at evaluating acute respiratory infection hubs. Find out more: ths.im/3RG5K21
