Back in the late 90s, we experienced a century ice storm that knocked out the electrical grid in Montreal for over a week and with it the water treatment plant. To be on the safe side, I'd recommend filling pots, pans and jugs with water if you are at risk of losing power this weekend down south.

I really enjoyed this novel by Kelly Evans. It's a gripping and informative read about Edith of Wessex, the years leading up to the Conquest in 1066 and how easily the invasion might have failed were it not for the treachery of a power-hungry, vainglorious usurper. Remind you of any one today?
