it’s funny because sonic adventure 1 & 2 are more or less the natural end points of sonic
one is the climax of the nature/history storyline and the other is the climax of the eggman/technology storyline, both of which were the two sides of each previous sonic game

Made this chart back in 2024 on how I'd personally categorize the different Sonic "eras". Lots of these games have crossover with different sections, like how SA2 I consider to be both the last "Classic" and first "Modern" Sonic game.

Went through the trilogy again on Genesis (and CD on the remake's decomp which I think is reasonable), and actually I don't think this. Sonic CD is just the one game not negatively impacted by its remake in Origins (w/ Ultrafix and other mod fixes). CD's still a phenomenal game though.
Replayed the classic Sonic games back to back and Sonic CD might actually be the best one.

Got Sonic Origins on sale and downloaded the Ultrafix mod assuming it would restore the speed caps, but it doesn't in Anniversary Mode which is a bummer. Thankfully I can still enable them with cheats for 1 & 2, but since you access them on the title screens I can't in Story Mode which sucks.

An unfortunate result of being on the internet for most of your life and having low self-esteem is that it becomes very easy to fall into the trap of kowtowing to consensus and others' opinions, regardless of your own feelings on something. Lately I've been making an effort to unlearn this behaviour
