This hashtag doesn’t seem to get the love it deserves here. I’ll be there as well!

Excited to share this new article of my PhD student Edith Rapo on the association between depression and seeking feedback from others about oneself, depending on the anticipated feedback's valence and congruence with the self-perception. Open Acces in BRAT 👇 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Better to keep a negative self-perception than ask for feedback? - How depressive symptoms are associated with the desire for social feedback
We investigated whether depressive symptom severity is associated with incongruence between how people perceive themselves (self-perception) and how t…

I get that you’d have preferred something purer, and that’s fine and I totally get your perspective.

We will continue to protest and speak out within Israel, raising our voices against the ongoing injustice and advocating for change. At the same time, we call upon our colleagues and friends to lend their support to these efforts in whatever ways they can.”
nivreggev.bsky.social
As I said, it’s totally fine to criticize the specific words we chose to write in the letter.

But we do call for:

“ the immediate cessation of the war, the release of all hostages, and for urgent, large-scale, professional, and effective humanitarian action to alleviate the suffering
nivreggev.bsky.social
I do not see how the letter or my response can be interpreted as though we meant to address the call for boycott, this was certainly not my intent nor the intent of us as the writers.
The letter goes out against the horrible things Israel is doing in Gaza.
From my perspective, against the genocide
nivreggev.bsky.social
Divesting in the context of academic discourse is divesting from the academic community. This has been the call promoted by our colleagues. That’s their sphere of influence.

Source of evil - I wasn’t implying it’s in your comments. Just the general BDS movement. Sorry if that came off like that
nivreggev.bsky.social
The official academy does not publicly act to oppose it. That’s unfortunately true. The mainstream academic organizations that protest against the government do act now to oppose the genocide and the war. Among others.

We did not want to explicitly name specific efforts for good reasons.
nivreggev.bsky.social
But you writing about lack of action just demonstrates an over-representation of self-righteous vigor on social media.

The horror in Gaza is real. It should end, now. I hope you support all efforts to end it. Including ours.
nivreggev.bsky.social
However, I bet that the vast majority of signatories on this statement did more to oppose the government and end the genocide than anyone else in the Twittersphere or BlueSky or any social media.

Not enough, and clearly not successful so far.
nivreggev.bsky.social
It’s fine to criticize the letter. I can also understand the desire to divest from the entire Israeli academic community (as long as it’s done without the hypocritical claim that Israel is the single source of evil in the world, as the BDS campaign often does).

Breaking a hiatus to post this.

A group of Israeli Social Psychologists, myself included, wrote a letter to speak out clearly against the Israeli government’s decisions and the resulting devastation in Gaza.

A Letter by Israeli Social Psychologists
Dear friends of the Social Psychology community, After October 7, a group of Israeli social psychologists, including many of us, wrote a letter expressing our deep shock at the massacre, abuse, rape,...

The IFD fills a gap in face perception research — offering a psychometrically robust, culturally sensitive, and scientifically versatile tool.

📊 The origins of diversity: the chart below shows the ancestral origins of IFD participants — from Morocco to Poland, Iraq to Argentina, and 33 + other countries.

✨ What makes it special?

* Multi-ethnic, non-Western representation
* Self-identification + grandparents’ birthplaces
* Continuous ratings (dominance, empathy, typicality)
* 🇮🇱+ 🇺🇸 validation

🧠 The IFD includes tightly controlled + natural images of real people from Israel: Jews (with varying ancestral origins), Muslims, Christians, Israeli-Palestinians, and more.
