What can one do except weep for a country whose leaders would vilify a woman killed in front of her wife and dog like this, by a masked man whose reaction to ending someone’s life is to call her a fucking bitch?

US officials have discussed sending lump sum payments of up to $100,000 to every Greenlander as part of a bid to convince them to secede from Denmark and join the United States, sources tell Reuters

Exclusive: Trump administration mulls payments to sway Greenlanders to join US
The idea of directly paying residents of Greenland, an overseas territory of Denmark, offers one explanation of how the U.S. might attempt to "buy" the island of 57,000 people.

Trump makes clear that he won’t be satisfied with anything short of US “ownership” of Greenland. No explanation of why this is necessary given US has free rein to increase its presence. Just the deranged whims of one man.

Option 1 is the only acceptable one from Denmark’s, Greenland’s and the EU’s point of view. In practice, it would give the US everything it needs. In Trump’s dystopian world, where power and ownership are everything, it appears not to be enough

Trump owns this crackdown and is probably happy to. But it’s a horrible look for the US. And I’m not sure American voters, weary of foreign entanglements, will applaud. Hard not to think that the Venezuelan adventure poses a big risk for Republicans in the midterms.
