How hard is the individual pathway to become a teacher? #teachersky #edusky

I have no idea how hard this individual certification pathway is. But alas I gotta do it since I’m not trying to do grad school again when I’ll be graduating with a MA in May 2024 #edusky

Reading the criticism for Sold a Story and thinking more about ways to support students. I think the best thing to do is if one method isn’t working, use another. I’m realizing there might be too much of a focus on harm rather than on support.
Should Vermont Mimic Mississippi?: SOR Edition
There is a story education journalists love to tell; it is so innocent and compelling that even Florida wouldn't bother to ban it. Here is the story: For decades, reading teachers in the United States...

English isn’t like Spanish where words are spelled as they’re read unfortunately

So there isn’t like a 1:1 correspondence #teachersky #edusky

At end of the day, I think when I see one method isn’t work, use another. But always have more than one method to use to teach kids how to read.

I just felt lied to. I felt like something was wrong when I didn’t feel like the student I was teaching was learning how to read. They were just guessing. I pray my school doesn’t make me learn the cueing method. No matter how prestigious the school, it can be wrong.
Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong
There's an idea about how children learn to read that's held sway in schools for more than a generation — even though it was proven wrong by cognitive scientists decades ago. Teaching methods based ...

Damn I was taught to teach kids the cueing method but somehow I felt like it wasn’t really teaching them how to read

Worse case worst, time to be a 🦋 for Halloween

Then I don’t have to worry about sizes in the same way. All you gotta do is get a black dress and the wings can be whatever size you want it to be

I just wanted to be Cardcaptor Sakura for Halloween but some of these costumes only stop at L and the 2xl is a joke. I’m like idk in what world was that a size 2xl because it fit like a S

The weekly pledge of allegiance is brutal since everyone seems to participate or they make the students participate. I haven’t witnessed it ever since I was in elementary school. I didn’t know it was still a thing #edusky #teachersky

It was adorable. One of my students said Gudetama in the movie drank the soy sauce like coke. I was like don’t tell them it’s more like 🍶

As an educator, you need a lot a lot of patience

If you don’t got it, this isn’t the field for you

Plus a lot of inner work to address traumas and more so you’re not projecting onto kids #edusky #teachersky

I knew when the kids didn’t give a fuck about the bus driver yelling at them that they’re not about to care what a random stranger said to them

It’s the same reason I don’t try to engage with online harassers, they don’t care

That verbal onslaught was intense on the eardrums

All the past kids I’ve been assigned when I was an instructional aide was easier but that’s because we got a bond

If they said an -ism, they would care because we already built that bond

There is a reason I wear dresses is the same reason why hospitals got gowns, easy on and off

Like if more folks saw that and they got more pockets, I feel more folks would wear dresses

I once told my mom she didn’t teach me the word for discrimination but I knew it as a kid because of the shit I heard around me from fatphobic comments to racist comments and more. Some came from my elementary school teachers. I became a teacher to not be like them #edusky #teachersky

Whenever I hear kids using the t or f slur for me on public transit, I’m like this is why educating them on the contributions of queer and trans folks are important besides that it’s just rude to disparage folks like that casually. It’s fucked up. Some kids echo what their grown ups say.
