For those who may be interested, there's a link to watch Manchán and Ruán Magan's 2003 docudrama on the life of their grandmother Sighle Humphreys here. Presented by Manchán. I haven't seen any of Manchán early travel documentaries, they are surely a great watch.

This might be my favourite historical ad
Ad in a magazine comparing the efficacy of mowers to Napoleon’s campaigns across Europe, with the mowers coming out on top

'Agricultural Ireland' magazine, which was published monthly from 1941 to 1963. This bunch of approx. 45 issues all date from the 1940s & offer a fascinating insight into agricultural practice in Ireland during 'The Emergency' & postwar period. The adverts really are a social history in themselves.

For reasons that are unclear, my g-g-grandparents eloped from Meath to Connecticut in 1888. They married in a church in New Haven, where the bride's sister lived. Then they upped and came home after a few weeks. I'd have liked to visit the church, but they knocked it in 1966 to build an Interstate!

Thanks, I'll try to get there for a look.

Amazing. Do you reckon there will be more skips being filled over the coming days? I'm contemplating taking a trip over to see.

I'm going to be having dreams about this now!

It was at a carboot sale, they only had the one. Quite a bit of Dublin Millennium merch floating around, but this is the first one of these I've seen in reality.

Nice to find an Irish maker's mark. Not by Pierce of Wexford, as one might expect. But it is by a County Wexford firm: Bolger of Ferns. I hadn't heard of this business, which was also renowned for its edge tools.
