Ten years ago this week, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) presented their 94 Calls to Action after hearing from thousands of Indigenous people across the country. Many of these stories were bravely shared after harrowing experiences of trauma in Canada’s Residential Schools.

Happy Hanukkah to Jewish communities across Nova Scotia. May this Festival of Lights be a time of reflection, resilience, and hope.

Facts: Rents in Nova Scotia are rising faster than the national average, and Tim Houston is ignoring it. We could protect renters with real rent control that closes the fixed-term lease loophole. But the Houston government is not interested in solutions that would help renters today.

We know Nova Scotia has some of the highest rates of intimate partner violence in the country. Since last October alone, at least seven women here have lost their lives because of it. It’s heartbreaking, and it’s unacceptable. 🧵

Instead of keeping people safe, the Houston government is picking another fight. This time with Mi’kmaw communities.

The Justice Minister announced a “crackdown” on unregulated cannabis dispensaries without Mi’kmaw leadership or the RCMP at the table.

On the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we remember the 14 women whose lives were stolen 36 years ago — and every Nova Scotian who has faced gender-based violence since. We commit to action so every woman, girl, and gender-diverse person can live safely with dignity.

Today marks 108 years since the Halifax Explosion. We remember and reflect on the lives lost, and the lives changed forever.

Halifax rebuilt through community and care — a reminder that we are strongest when we support one another. 🧡

Who can afford to spend almost $1,000 more on groceries next year?

Costs across the board are up since the Houston government was elected. $400 more a year on power. $4,400 more on rent.

Today, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we're reminded that too many Nova Scotians still face barriers in their everyday lives. We can — and must — do better.

Part of that work is making sure people with disabilities are represented in our democracy.

Today I got to take a ride in the ferry wheelhouse on my way home to Dartmouth!

The oldest saltwater ferry in North America, it's "the best office view in Halifax," Captain Stuart said. And it sure beats sitting in bridge traffic. Thank you!

Tim Houston is responsible for Nova Scotia Power. He's the premier, and he's the energy minister. He should be taking action now to lower Nova Scotians' bills and holding Nova Scotia Power accountable.

Power is not a luxury, and nobody should have to worry about keeping the heat and lights on.

If you've been overcharged by Nova Scotia Power or threatened with collections or high-interest payments, we want to hear from you. Tell us your story here: nsndp.ca/your-nsp-story

Physician assistants can ease the pressure in many areas of our health care system and help more Nova Scotians get the care they need. Thank you and Happy National Physician Assistant Day!

It's been one year since the election and the government talking points don't match the reality on the ground. Did we miss something? Drop it in the comments. 👇

I'm deeply saddened to hear about Colleen Jones' passing. A superstar on and off the ice, a champion curler and talented storyteller, she showed us what it means to represent the best of Nova Scotia—and have a blast while doing it. Thinking of Colleen's family, friends, colleagues, and fans.

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we're reminded that far too many women and girls aren't safe in their homes, in their communities, or online. We stand with survivors and the front-line organizations who support them every single day.

Houston's plan to support developers building high-end apartments that people can't afford is not making it easier to afford a home in our province.

The data is clear: we need to invest in non-market housing options that will actually take the pressure of renters.

You Nova Scotians should be able to find and keep a safe home that you can afford.

It's National Housing Day, and we want to hear from you. If you're dealing with rising housing costs, fixed-term leases, trying to downsize, or renovictions, your story matters. Add your voice: nsndp.ca/housingstory

On World Diabetes Day, we're reminded that everyone should have the care they need to manage this chronic condition. With proper support, those with diabetes can thrive. It's vital to ensure they have access to the primary care they need, something that too many Nova Scotians are still waiting for.
