Downloaded the 2 Frontier movies. Might try to watch the first 1 tmr?
I'm excited to see Frontier with improved animation. It was already pretty high quality for TV anime.

I'm super curious how different it is from the main series. DYRL and the Plus film have shown me the series can go either way

You hate Jared Leto because of Morbius, his cult, his shitty method acting, or his music that increasingly got overly pretentious, but I hate him because my professor in a "Philosophy in Film" course made us write an essay about "Mr. Nobody" with a prompt that the film didn't give leeway for.

That is what he said yeah. It's a really poorly done sequence. And yeah, it is legitimately very easy to cut out.
It doesn't add any baggage for Mylene to confront later, no one mentions it, hell, it's not even an ill advised attempt at humor or ecchi.

Weird to have finished M7 now. It was certainly a lot. After all of it, I realized that I really loved the characters. Especially after I let it sit. If you asked me after my first watch of each if I liked Plus or M7 more, I probably would've said Plus. Now I'd say M7.

While I loved the finale, I wish that they wrapped up the ProtoDevelin story earlier so we could have gotten more wanderer Basara tales as seen in MD7 and the movie.

Sucks how most the main cast got super shafted. Given 1 of her few scenes, Mylene should've just not been here

Lot going on lately, so I haven't updated, but I did finish the rewrite to the Simon's Quest script. It didn't actually take that much to do, but I couldn't find time to work on it between other things

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.

Maybe I'd feel differently if I hadn't seen the OVA already, but the Plus film, while they shuffled some scenes and timing around, kinda felt like a 4 act film. As in, I reached the point roughly where episode 3 ended and said "oh, now is when I should use the bathroom"

I think I've also realized that the aspects of Macross I appreciate the most fit better to a TV anime format. SDF Macross and Macross Frontier were masters of anticipation & pay-off that just doesn't come as easy for OVAs and films.

Also kinda showing just how masterful DYRL was for pulling it off.

Watching this was cursed for me. 6 times, I watched the first 5ish minutes and something came up.
Now watching it, it's alright. I enjoy it, but everyone swore I should watch both versions and I don't feel like the movie really changed THAT much. & I preferred the OVA

I couldn't beat either, but I'd say also try to play a little bit of Knightmare II and The Goonies II. Both gave me a deeper appreciation for the leaps SQ took. And by that I mean those 2 are riddled with issues that had me appreciate how "straight forward" Simon's Quest was.

They're very interesting. Not replacements for actual Simon's Quest and they have some clear fangame jank, but they're worth playing. Especially as a comparison to the original

My opinion didn't change much from last year. I think I enjoy it more than the official Simon's Quest, but at the cost of removing lots of SQ's identity. Video on the subject shouldn't take long since I wrote most the script last year.

Forgot to add. Watched after the other 2 Sandlers.
I never saw this one. It's in service to an end film twist, but I feel the film did so much to piss me off.
Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore suffered consequences of their own actions, Sandler in this movie suffers due to nothing

82) Call of the Night Paradise Arc
A nice epilogue to Ko's story. We see him more comfortable after the events of the main series. Not required reading if you wanna just read the manga start to back.
More Anko is always fun though.
