By way of an introduction on here: Hi everyone! I wrote these two books. I will happily talk about bird sounds all day, if anyone wants to discuss.
After finishing Oklahoma yesterday, today I visited my 254th and final county for Texas... and celebrated with a jar of 254 regular M&Ms!

I am on a quest to go birding in every county in the United States. Today I ticked my 77th and final county for Oklahoma, and celebrated with a jar of 77 peanut M&Ms.

Yesterday I was notified that an NEH grant I'm on has been canceled by the Trump Administration. The point of the grant was to develop humanities courses that integrate data science. Guess that was too woke for somebody. This administration simply does not know what it is doing.

The true story of an endangered crane who had to learn to love her own species. #Birds in #kidlit -- two of my favorite things.
My latest #kidlit #bird book review is up on the 10,000 bird blog—and you will want to read this #NF book! It’s THE CRANE AND THE KEEPER, by Meeg Pincus, illustrated by Gillian Eilidh O’Mara @lightonthesea.bsky.social https:/www.10000birds.com/the-crane-and-the-keeper-a-kidlit-bird-book-review.htm
THE CRANE AND THE KEEPER: A KidLit Bird Book Review
What is The Crane and the Keeper? A story of the unexpected dangers of imprinting. An interspecies friendship story. A story of persistence. A love story. A story of humans both harming—and saving—a…

Okay, pals.
Time for action this month.
We're going to do that by funding classrooms that are specifically seeking out Black history books. These classrooms are those that are in historically underfunded communities.
These asks are from teachers whose students benefit directly.

Mindblowing presentation last night by USFWS’s Kristin Salamack: temporary fencing deployed in southeastern Colorado during fall mating season successfully funneled tarantulas (& the occasional burrowing owl) into preexisting culverts.

After two field guides to bird sounds, I decided to change gears and write fiction. Turns out novels are harder than I thought! But several years and manuscripts later, with the help of my writing partner Katheryn, @sarahnfisk.bsky.social, and a great critique group, here we are! #writing #kidlit
We have a book deal! Thanks to @sarahnfisk.bsky.social and Little, Brown Children’s. #kidlit #writingcommunity #library

Call to action, Chicago! The city is speeding thru the approval of the lakefront quantum computing facility without community input, continuing Chicago's legacy of prioritizing developer profits over neighborhood needs.
This development is particularly concerning for bird conservationists.
