The heads of Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Tesla all joined Trump at his inauguration.

Since then, largely thanks to Trump's Big Ugly Bill, their companies have reaped $51B in federal tax breaks — paid for by huge cuts to our social safety net.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

“. . . I do not believe that the meaning of the Constitution was forever ‘fixed’ at the Philadelphia Convention. “Nor do I find the wisdom, foresight, and sense of justice exhibited by the Framers particularly profound. To the contrary, the government they devised was defective from the start.” 1/2

In its ongoing war against higher ed—and law firms—the battles MAGA has won are those where the other side surrendered in advance. (The Columbia/UT Austin/Paul Weiss "strategy," vs the Harvard/UCLA/Perkins Coie/etc strategy.)

Resistance is not just braver but also smarter and more effective.
This is a genuinely huge, sweeping victory today for the University of California—or rather, for us, its faculty, acting through our faculty associations, while the UC itself maintained a strict policy of deer-in-headlights silence.

The Trump admin has given up its appeal of a powerful injunction:

Yesterday, at the check up with the optometrist to see how Wednesday’s cataract surgery had gone.

He: “So how’s that left eye doing?”
I: “Sinister.”

He laughed, but then again I’m paying him.

The two best ideas of my retirement so far have been:

1) The Dog, and

2) The gas log in the old fireplace

both shown here from Christmas season.

The GOP is ginning up the “non-citizen voting” claim and the House has passed the SAVE act, which harms eligible US voters.

It’s bullshit. All of it. Its sole purpose is to undermine trust in elections as a pretext for a fed power grab.

Get the facts.

These are voices I trust.
