One of the ways that the American Public Health Association is celebrating 30 years of National Public Health Week is through reflection. When we think about how in the past we've faced a challenge or had success, it can help us inform our vision for the future.
Continuing on about #NationalPublicHealthWeek, let's think about the communities that we are all a part of. When these different microcosms that we are all a part of can thrive, so do we!
April 7th marked the kick-off of #NationalPublicHealthWeek. This was started by the American Public Health Association (@APHA) to get the public thinking about the health of everybody in the nation.

2025 marks 30 years of raising public health consciousness. Here's to a healthier future!
Join us at noon on Monday, April 7 in the NYAM lobby for this month’s FREE "First Monday" tour! We will be focusing on children and health. We’ll be looking at materials about the health of children as well as books written for children to teach them about living healthy.

We hope to see you there!

3/30 was #NationalDoctorsDay. A country-wide celebration of the doctors in our lives who make us and the world better. We weren't open yesterday, which means we'll just have to celebrate it today!

Your doctor should know you and your family. You might even consider them a member of the household!
On March 27th, 2005, we were introduced to Meredith Grey and her fellow interns at Seattle Grace Hospital. What was originally looked at by execs as just another mid-season replacement to follow the juggernaut Desperate Housewives has become a cultural phenomenon.

For some people, the world is a stage. Today is for the theatre kid in all of us-- it's #WorldTheatreDay! Since we've been standing upright, we've enjoyed telling, seeing, and hearing stories.

Staying home when you are ill is important. Sneezing or coughing over strangers is just bad manners!
Våffeldagen! A mispronunciation of another holiday led Sweden to accidentally creating an internationally recognized celebration! Today is #InternationalWaffleDay.
March 21st is International Day of Forests. These ecosystems cover over 30% of the Earth's surface. Forests are homes to thousands of animals and plants.

You can help preserve these natural resources by starting small! Recycling and shopping local are some easy ways for you to start.

#ForestDay
In 2008, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Nurses Association came together to champion specialty certified nurses with #CertifiedNursesDay. It is celebrated on the birthday of Dr. "Gretta" Styles.

This pamphlet promoted an early 20th century program WITH specialties.
We are excited to have you all join us! Arlene has got some great items to show the class...
It's #StPatricksDay ! We sure hope you are wearing green today...

Here in New York City, it's rather grey today. While we wish we could be celebrating with the almost-seasonal greenery and blue skies, at least we can daydream about it. These thoughts might lead to a future park picnic...
They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. What about apple pie?

It is once again #PiDay and we are celebrating by taking another look at two apple pies that were made from the 1824 edition of Mary Randolph's "The Virginia House-wife."

Happy baking and/or eating!
On this day, in 1912, the first ever meeting of what would become the Girl Scouts of the USA was held. They don't just sell those delicious cookies!

"Campward Ho..." from 1920 shows how scout leaders could run a successful, inclusive, and, of course, fun summer camp for the troops!

#GirlScouts
Today the sun sets at 6:57pm. Why do we feel so tired?! The Monday after Daylight savings causes us to "spring forward" is #NationalNappingDay.

In "Why We Nap," researcher, Dinges, concludes his contribution by stating "Naps.. are a common feature of the sleep of healthy adults..."
It's not quite 2:30, or "tooth-hurty" here on the East coast, but anytime today is a good time to tell you that March 6th is #NationalDentistDay! It's a day where we celebrate those who not only make our teeth shine but contribute to our overall health.

Filling up your Pokedex this #PokemonDay? Surveys of species have a long history with the published book!

One of these early surveyors was the 16th century Italian Naturalist, Ulisse Aldrovandi. These images come from his 1599 collection on Ornithology (aka the study of birds).
35 years ago, Agent Cooper entered the small town of Twin Peaks to investigate the mysterious death of Laura Palmer.

"The Story of Coffee" traces the coffee bean's origin from early folklore to the modern (well, 1931).

In honor of Twin Peaks, and David Lynch, treat yourself to a "damn fine cup."
The NYAM Section on the History of Medicine and Public Health invites you to submit abstracts for presentation at their 16th Annual History of Medicine and Public Health Night. This year, the theme is "Medical Information and Disinformation from the 18th Century Until Now."
