Headed to Filey Brigg today in the hope the Needletail would turn up. No luck, so had to be content with Rock Pippits, feisty Stonechats and a handsome Wheatear!
Lines of dark rocks with waves breaking over them, reaching out into the grey North Sea at the very tip of the headland at Filey, North Yorkshire. Little breaks in the cloud cover allow glimpses of blue sky overhead.

BTO winter bird survey Copmanthorpe West fields this morning inc:
6 grey partridges
9 skylarks
2 hares
Delighted with the partridges, all in 1 covey so I'm guessing a successful breeding season 💚 @yorkbirding.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social

Finally made the effort to enjoy this female type at the York Uni campus this morning. Been around since 28 September, thanks to original finder. Few redpoll about too. @nybirdnews.bsky.social @teesbirds.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social

Away from the chaos along the coast. Second helpings of Nosterfield’s Red-necked Phalarope, lunch in Masham, then over the tops to Gouthwaite Reservoir and a game of spot the difference for the somewhat sleepy & distant Lesser Scaup.

What a fantastic bird, white-throated needletail at Scarborough Castle this morning, from Marine drive. After not finding it at Filey, thanks to the (re)-finder.
No pic can justify this true mega, these certainly don't 😅.

Many Lincolnshire birders will know Ben Ward, he's now living and birding in Yorkshire. This morning he refound the White-throated Needletail on his Scarborough castle patch. His flat list is on nearly 150species! #Lincsbirding
