Super excited to redo this shitshow in November + Adams and Sliwa!
If you’re mad we didn’t endorse Mamdani- say so. Don’t make up lies saying we said to leave both off the ballot.
You very specifically stated we said to leave both off the ballot. In fact- we say the opposite: that a ballot needs to include one of them
That’s not what we recommended at all. We’d recommend reading our full statement before posting misinformation.
Zohran Mamdani (@ZohranKMamdani) receives an F, as the only candidate who opposes hiring more police officers. He places a greater emphasis on activist priorities over real solutions to deter crime and improve public safety in ways that benefit all communities.
Adrienne Adams (@AdrienneEAdams) earns a C. She’s pushed back on NYPD staffing cuts, stood for police accountability, and sued to block ICE at Rikers. However, her weak retail theft plan and lack of support for police on subways are serious concerns.
However, while this scorecard is focused on candidates’ policies, we also believe that Cuomo’s history of sexual harassment and corruption allegations can not, and should not, be ignored. We will have more to say on this when we release our final recommendations.
Andrew Cuomo (@andrewcuomo) earns a B for his strong record as governor on public safety issues ranging from gun violence to addressing police misconduct. His mayoral platform also includes strong proposals, such as strengthening involuntary commitment criteria for cases with serious mental illness.
Whitney Tilson earns a B for his stances on hiring more cops, allowing judges to weigh “dangerousness” in bail decisions, and reforming the discovery process. However, we are disappointed in his support for reopening the ICE office at Rikers.
Scott Stringer earns a B for his long history of thoughtful stances on public safety issues, including advocating for stop-and-frisk reform. He’s recanted his previous stances on defunding the police, and is supportive of hiring more cops, and getting them back on the streets.
Brad Lander earns a B for his largely positive record on public safety issues, and we appreciate that he’s rethought his previous statements around “defunding the police”. He supports getting more cops back on the street while also addressing NYPD overtime abuse.
Zellnor Myrie earns an A because his public safety plan directly aligns with our New Liberal values, including hiring more police officers to make our city safer, while also working to hold them accountable through policies like ending qualified immunity.
For the final round of grades for our 2025 NYC Mayoral scorecard, we’ve taken a look at the public safety policies of each candidate:
Put simply, Mamdani’s economic policies are a threat to the long-term economic viability of NYC. His agenda lacks realistic funding and implementation plans and reflects a profound ignorance of economic trade-offs and consequences.
Zohran Mamdani (@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social) earns an F for his destructive and unrealistic economic agenda. Before getting into our criticisms, we do want to acknowledge his support for street vendor and food truck deregulation - one of his few economic policies we support.
