close to 300 episodes. a huge archive of SA deep house music culture between 2009 - 2017 (episodes after this year were sporadic). gone just like that 😢

what remains is a single episode from 7 months ago (probably uploaded after the administrator deleted all earlier episodes. damn!
the last item seems to have been zapped from the internet, & internet archive only managed to archive the podcast's landing page. so, i can't access any of House Music Jet's episodes. i'll update if i find any solutions to this roadblock

I recall reading or skimming the texts cited before the show.

So lucky because quote after quote was voiced by a Narrator, esp. Sylvia Wynter via Chude-Sokei's book which argues that Black people have always been equated with Machines.

The title itself is from a 2018 interview of Achille Mbembe.

"Paying homage to the building’s history, artists have placed a row of mannequin legs near the entrance with plants sprouting from them. The installation was inspired by watching women waiting for taxis, says artist and custodian of the building Kganyapa Kganyapa."

Some great news. My hybrid memoir IN OPEN COUNTRY will now be published by Little, Brown. It’s about freedom of movement and stillness in the US, and the ways capitalism & settler colonialism have shaped (and continue to shape) the answer to who has either across time. I also do a lot of walking.

Possibly the country’s greatest poet/novelist, but outside of the niche he’s carved for himself, no one knows him.

I’d say you should check him out but most of his work was published by indies and university presses. Obv out of press, & costly on the 2nd hand market.

In December, the Department of Home Affairs published the Draft Revised White Paper on Citizenship, Immigration and Refugee Protection. Opportunity to comment on the paper closed on the weekend.

i mean, borders are absurd things, but the Lesotho/South Africa border is probably the most absurd. it should’ve been dismantled a long time ago

Members of the anti-immigration movement March and March, together with members of the MK Party, believe, without evidence, that immigrant learners are being prioritised over South Africans who want to be placed in the school.

south african house producers, who all ran away to that hopeless genre (afrotech) when mapiano took over, are finally coming back to their senses. nature is healing.

"Cass Sunstein proclaimed it 'the most admirable constitution in the history of the world.' And yet, set against the longue durée of settler colonial [...] the constitution’s affirmation of the sanctity of property rights evades and rationalizes the history of how land and property were acquired."
