Lost & Found is a series of releases pulling from the archives of Obey Giant Art. This week, we are excited to announce the release of a limited number of Cold Chillin screenprints from 2008 in red or blue, which will be available on Thursday, December 11th at 10 AM PT in the Obey Giant Store. A limited number of screenprints will be available as matching numbered sets.

The crew and I just finished this small mural at Factory Town in the Little Haiti district of Miami. The project was curated by my friend Casey from Known Gallery, and I was proud to paint with a great group, including Revok and Risk. The “They Live We Sleep” mural is inspired by several things. My original interest in skulls came from their recurrent presence in skateboard and punk rock iconography of the 80s.

“Peace is Power” is meant to encourage us to strive for health and peace for humanity and the planet that sustains us. Peace is not the absence of disagreement, but the ability to resolve disagreements without violence. Peace takes more thought, more kindness, more diplomacy, and more creativity, but the result is a more powerful investment. The dove is internationally recognized as a symbol of peace, making it ideal as a communication tool.

I was happy to create this special print commemorating the long-awaited return of HOPE Outdoor Gallery in Austin, TX. My wife, Amanda, and I have been ongoing supporters of the project since its inception. I created the original logo and helped launch the HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) campaign back in 2006. We’re excited that the new location will expand upon their rich foundation of art education classes, community events, and more professional development for Austin’s creative community.

Our Democracy is under attack. As part of Fall of Freedom, I am teaming up with BEYOND THE STREETS to feature my show “Out of Print,” which opened this past Saturday.

"Uplift Justice” is based on a mural I painted in Philadelphia in the Fall. I wanted to create an image in Philly, a city often considered the birthplace of American democracy, that connects the ideals of the past with the questions we face today. Nearly 250 years after the founding of this country, we have an opportunity to ask ourselves what the next 250 years should look like—a continuation of where we’re headed, or maybe a reset.

I’ve been a fan of Tom Petty since I first heard “Refugee” and “Don’t Do Me Like That” on the radio as a nine-year-old kid. I was lucky enough to work with Tom on several projects before he passed. I created the original art for The Live Anthology box set back in 2009 and was happy to revisit this for the latest edition.

I saw one of Alfredo Gonzalez’s art pieces online and did a deep dive into his exquisitely rendered body of work. I then contacted him to commission an art piece, which led to us becoming friends and to further art acquisitions, and eventually to this Make Art Not War(Painting) print project. Alfredo, being of a kind and generous character, made a small painting inspired by my Make Art Not War print and gave it to me as a gift.

Punk rock changed my life as a teen and its ethos still fuels me today, so I’m honored to show along side punk artist heroes of mine Jamie Reid and Winston Smith as well as Invader and NoNÅME. BEYOND THE STREETS is proud to present SHEPARD FAIREY: OUT OF PRINT, a landmark exhibition devoted to the artist’s lifelong dialogue with printmaking. Bringing together more than 400 original screen prints alongside new and re‑mixed works that combine screen printing and stenciling, the exhibition surveys Fairey’s enduring commitment to the image, the multiple, and the power of mass communication. “I’m a product of the era of mass production, and the mass culture printing has created.

“ICE Too Cold To Thaw” is a new song by DAVID J & the RESISTANCE through No Devotion Records. It is a direct affront to the horrors and traumas experienced by non-citizens (and those perceived to be immigrants) by ICE, which has been targeting undocumented immigrants across the country. Shepard Fairey and Tomo77 came together to create the front and back artwork for the album as well as an accompanying limited edition signed screenprint of the album art.

It has been a long time since Obey Giant and Lodown Magazine collided and left their mark on popular culture. Almost thirty years ago, the paths of Shepard Fairey and Thomas “Marok” Marecki crossed in San Diego, USA. Lodown Magazine was still in its infancy, and Fairey’s artistic evolution was only beginning. Both shared the same urge: to stir things up, to inject activism into culture, and to build something of their own.

ATTENTION: Triple Trouble, my collaborative show with Damien Hirst and Space Invader is not exclusively an indoor gallery experience, we also painted a mural including imagery from all three of us in Shoreditch, London. This, I was told, is the only mural including Damien Hirst’s work in London and definitely the only mural including all three of us anywhere in the world, so I think it’s pretty special.
