Between 39 – 58% of women who inherit a harmful change in BRCA1, and 13 – 29% of women who inherit a harmful change in BRCA2, will develop ovarian cancer during their lifetime.

In the case of ovarian cancer approximately 15 - 25% of ovarian cancers have a genetic cause, with mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes being the most common.
