261) Ju-On: The Grudge

One of the few films in this marathon I had expectations for, so of course it was a huge letdown. So fucking boring and full of dull, sauceless lighting & shot composition that prevents any potentially cool moments from feeling scary at all. Came out of this one very unhappy.

My mum's favourite film for the longest time, glad to finally watch it. It's pretty good! The acting here is fantastic all around, & while the direction is maybe a bit TOO mind-fucky for my taste, I did like how unique it felt at points. Cool ass movie, go check it out.

Talk about a downgrade. Other than half of it literally being the first movie which already sucks, the new stuff here is mind numbingly dull and has none of the unsettling creepiness of the first one. Also damn was this filmed using a Potato or some shit, it looks like ASS.

Cool as fuck actually? Glad to finally have a true banger in this hellhole of a marathon. Very unsettling, and very consistently so, which anthologies tend to struggle with imo. Also holy shit is this dark, the fucking baby bag is gonna stick with me for a while, jesus christ.

A flawlessly executed 90 minute one-take with immaculate set & costume design. It's a shame they forgot to add a movie into this movie. Maybe i'm just not into Russian history/culture enough but this bored me to tears, fucking nothing happened. Russian Peter Capaldi was funny tho.

Holy FUCK this was such a nothing burger. Not even offensively boring like Spiral, just a really dull experience with nothing of note to engage me as a story, nor as an adaptation. "Sadako" did look like Gamora tho which was p funny. Uhhh yeah, worthless. You failed, Korea.

Dogshit name aside, this was surprisingly good! It was nice to see more of Sadako & learn how she became the monster we see in the other films. Really fucking good climax, too, super intense and raw, as it should be. My favourite so far, if still not incredible or anything.

One of my closest friends really wanted me to read this series and after reading it I can say that this was amazing. It has some of the most brutal dialogue I've seen and it's treated with respect for the subject matter, and it can be really funny at times. Looking forward to more
