I am definitely a game!
I’m quickly spriting up some monsters to fill the roster.
I bring you:

• Mikomummy
• Hitodama
• Skrabe (formerly just Krabe)
• Nurumono (Chiyo refuses to call it a slime)
• Tirebug

These are just for testing, and I’m still looking for someone to bring them to life.

Sorry for posting a similar image three times in a row, but I’ve finished the basics of the battle system!

You can fight it out now, and fainting and animations are supported.
Tomorrow I’ll work on the team view and swapping.

Halfway done with the battle system rewrite.

It flows much more naturally with a classic turn-order system.

I expect to finish the base system tomorrow — then it’s time to work on the party screens.

After some playtesting, I stepped back from the “tabletop initiative” battle system and started moving toward a classic 2v2 setup.

I can reuse the UI — but swaps like these are never smooth.

And once again, I’m redrawing things because I’m not satisfied.

I still aren’t — but since I’ve decided to prototype faster and commission artists (slots still open), I’ll swallow my pride and share it anyway.

My acation gave me time to think.

I tend to slow myself down chasing perfection, so I’m changing the approach. Daily victories. Small snippets.
Every push is a small story.

Still very WIP, but the scale is starting to feel right.

Mini Update:
I’m bouncing between the battle system and interaction system. Right now I’m working on an “Interaction Box” flow:
Speak → Battle → Speak

Because it’s node-based, I can plug in screen shakes, sounds, and other effects — making the system super flexible!

Trying to nail down a style as a non-artist is where I struggle the most.

I know I want taller character sprites, but I just don’t have the skill to get them looking the way I imagine.

I feel like I need to lock in a direction before commissioning an artist.

Hey peeps, sorry for not posting for so long.

The tldr is: I make games on the side while having a fulltime job.
So everything is fine, work is just stressful right now.

I missed #screenshotsaturday, but I was working dilengently on the new layout.

I am Using a 16 by 9 resulution, so I had to figure out where things go.
Here is the mocup that I will Implement into the game tomorrow.

Working on the battle scene made me ask myself if I want to stick so close to monster catching games.
I still feel catching yokai is a main mechanic, but I feel that I might waste a lot of potential if I rebuild what has been already done.
