Happy 97th birthday to Janez Pavčič, the oldest living Olympian to have represented Yugoslavia! Pavčič took part in three events at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Games, placing 13th in the 4x10 km relay and 45th in the 15 kilometers, and being disqualified in the 30 km.

Happy 93rd birthday to Dick Rodenhiser, the oldest living Olympic ice hockey champion! Rodenhiser represented the United States in the tournaments at the 1956 and 1960 Winter Olympics, winning silver in the former and gold in the latter.
Happy 100th birthday to Egon Schöpf, the oldest living Austrian Olympian! Schöpf represented his country in four alpine skiing events across two editions of the Games, 1948 and 1952, and won a bronze medal in the downhill at the 1950 World Championships.

Happy 100th birthday to French track athlete André Marie! Marie represented his country in the 110 metres hurdles at the 1948 London Olympics, where he was eliminated in the semi-finals. He won that event at the 1950 European Championships.
Happy 90th birthday to Sium bin Diau, the only surviving Olympian to have represented an independent North Borneo! Diau was one of the two triple jumpers who represented the country at the 1956 Melbourne Games, both of whom were eliminated in the qualifiers.

Our Olympian of the day is German rower Klaus von Fersen, born March 29, 1931. Fersen represented his country in the single sculls at the 1956 Melbourne Games, where he was eliminated in the semi-finals.
Our Olympian of the day is American water polo player Peter Stange, born February 28, 1931. Stange represented his country in the tournament at the 1952 Helsinki Games, where the United States just missed a medal in fourth. He won a bronze medal at the 1951 Pan American Games.

Our Olympian of the day is German rower Horst Stobbe, born January 31, 1934. Stobbe represented his country in the coxless fours at the 1956 Melbourne Games, where his crew was eliminated in the repêchage semi-finals. He was European champion in that event in 1957 and a bronze medalist in 1956.
Our Olympian of the day is American rower Charlie Logg, born February 24, 1931. Logg represented his country in the coxless pairs event at the 1952 Helsinki Games, where he won the gold medal.
Our Olympian of the day is British track athlete Muriel Pletts, born February 23, 1931. Pletts represented her country in the 4x100 metres relay at the 1948 London Games, where Great Britain just missed a medal in fourth. Her daughter Sue Hearnshaw was a long jump bronze medalist in 1984.
Our Olympian of the day is American speed skater Gene Sandvig, born February 8, 1931. Sandvig represented his country in two events at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Games, placing 30th in the 1500 metres and 31st in the 5000 metres.
Happy belated 90th birthday to José Manuel Quina, born October 3, 1935, the oldest living Portuguese Olympic medalist! Quina represented his country in three sailing events in 1960, 1968, and 1972, winning silver in the Star class in 1960.

Oldest Olympians is saddened to learn that Claude Bénard, born October 6, 1926, who represented France in the high jump at the 1948 and 1952 Summer Games, died August 27 at the age of 98.

Oldest Olympians is saddened to learn that Tricia Gardiner, born August 16, 1935, who represented Great Britain in the equestrian dressage tournament at the 1988 Seoul Games, died August 20 at the age of 90.
