Alfred Wainwright, born into poverty on this day in Blackburn in 1907. He left school aged 13 and became an office boy in Blackburn Borough Engineer’s Department. At age 23 he took a holiday away from home, to the Lake District. It was love at first sight. A #Lancashire story:
