I'm shocked by those comments on Twitter.
first thing I see opening the twitter app is thousands of the biggest manchildren screaming at a woman for posting about earning her phd bc they don’t like/understand the subject matter, what a deeply deeply unpleasant place

Presently reading a final paper for “The Middle East in Film” that draws inspiration from both the work of Fayrouz Kaddal and @williamcarruthers.bsky.social on Nubian history, identity, and music! Seeing students cite the work of colleagues brings me no shortage of joy. #Egypt

That might be incredibly helpful, especially for the people tweeting the revolutions live in 2011. X/Twitter has become unreliable, and the online archive created by tweeters should be kept safe from someone like Musk.
With BlueArk, you can migrate your tweets from X/Twitter to Bluesky quickly, securely and with the original date of each post. We preserve your stories, your media and your most relevant content on a new platform, without losing anything along the way. 🪽 blueark.app/en-us/

Egyptian-Palestinian actor May Calamawy's female lead role has been entirely removed from Gladiator II. The official excuses will likely be the usual: 'unintentional', 'necessary for pacing', and so on. It happened before with Bassem Youssef, a pattern that speaks louder than the blah blah excuses.

It is very helpful when colleagues share these experiences, letting other academics know that encountering a reviewer with a condescending tone happens and that the problem can sometimes be in the reviewer and not the author.

I have had an exciting meeting with a podcast creator this afternoon. We will probably record an episode soon, and it will be about my experience with my work and my broader positionally within the urban studies discipline, particularly that related to Cairo/Egypt. Fingers crossed.🤞

A mural appears on a wall in a central Cairo area, where the community is threatened to be displaced to make way for the so-called free market. It stands in solidarity with Palestinians, reading: ‘I will not leave my land.’ A simple, powerful message connecting struggles here and there.

New to BlueSky. Loving how the algorithm exclusively shows cats, dogs and some academics posting about their work. This is definitely more interesting than my timeline on the other app, which was quite depressing. Let’s see how this is going to unfold.
