It seems that a lot of the UK's current political problems are downstream of the fact that much of its media and political elites are hopelessly addicted to Twitter, and this has fundamentally warped their perceptions of reality.

Been playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance lately, and for all the game's vaunted realism in its depiction of 15th century Czechia, I note that you can't see kids anywhere. Then again, the game starts with a brutal massacre of a village, so I can see why they didn't.

'It was inflation, stupid' + the whole Biden dropping out saga pretty much sealed the deal in hindsight, it's not that much more complicated than that. The only issue is that a lot of American voters thought they were voting for 'normal' center-right politics, which, uh, no.

One reason social media propaganda is more insidious than TV/print/radio etc is that people are not just passive consumers of it, but actively participate in creating it. This makes people more reluctant to let go of narratives even with evidence, because of the nature of the investment .

Tbh it’s interesting that people think that since China is authoritarian, its government can do whatever it wants no matter how unpopular. Like you see people saying they’ll be able to cut pensions because they’re authoritarian, but let’s remember how Covid Zero went for them lol
