“We’re all going to have to figure out how to live together” - JK Rowling is deeply committed to not figuring that out! She’s committed to ramping up discrimination and cruelty.
This photo feels spiritually Salt Lake City - the tall ceilings, the kind of sparse decor, the men in suits.
The idiom is: “a few bad apples spoil the bunch.”
The suppression of information about the senility of our elected leaders, escalating political messaging, and media narrative fabrication combining to yield a President with dementia who thinks Portland had a zombie apocalypse.
The low histamine diet, much like the low FODMAPs diet, feels like there are little landmines lurking everywhere. For low histamine:
raspberries? no.
blueberries? yes.
lime? hard no.
orange? hard no.
goji berry? ... surprisingly, yes.
Convinced this is either true on a personal level (social media addiction) or societal level (total erosion of a public consensus) of most of the major “free” web successes of the last fifteen years.
"This website is free" No. This website comes at a terrible cost
Hard to describe the hell and quality of life of moderate to severe long covid. And the absence of treatments! Repeat infections can do really significant damage.
Really excellent - good intro to DSP if reading the C++ isn’t a barrier
In peacetime? 28 bridges. Sometimes 36. It’s barbaric.
Good write up about porting the reverb effect from C++ VST3 instrument to Rust.

YYYYY chromosome baby.
My cats love to wait until I’m actively deep in thought to jump up on me and interrupt me. They intone “Why aren’t you thinking about me?”
I’m such an AI cynic / @edzitron.com acolyte that I assume any attempt to bring “AI” into health decision making - even personalized probiotics - calls for extreme cynicism (and in a perfect world, regulatory oversight)
This is going to be one of those things where my subconscious demands I play the post-fungal-apocalypse game The Last of Us and my conscious mind is totally ignoring that I'm compulsively / anxiously playing it for hours
Tbf I think I specifically asked for the list of microbes in the PDF version of the report (most of the results are presented in a confusing app), these aren't usually included, if you're going to send the PDF to a doctor. But what's a doctor going to do with 0-100 gut "health" scores?
Could you (or @phylogenomics.bsky.social) point me to some more academic / critical writing on Viome? Results are lots of 0-100 health scores, then a list of found microbes with a tiny caveat that "pathogenic microbes are not detected by the bioinformatics algorithms used in this testing."
I've been getting healthier and asking people to do things on weekdays, absolutely forgetting that I've been granted the twisted luxury of doing things for a couple midday hours on weekdays (usually as that day's only activity outside the apartment).
Maybe it was David Foster Wallace talking about active addiction or something, he wrote about it well. A kind of underworld. But back to Sontag: how strange it is to go about my day and struggle to do my little walks and forget that this is a normal Thursday for most people.
Trying to remember some random passage describing parallel worlds in the same locations... The relative safety and bright lights of the gas station as one thing for the driver and another for the IV drug user. The hospital as one thing for the expectant and another for the grieving.
Few essay openings have stuck with me like this one: "Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick... sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place."
Illness as Metaphor | Susan Sontag
Illness is the night-side of life, a more onerous citizenship. Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom

5.5x2.1 at 120v? Yes please. I’m sure all those 12v guitar pedal power ports will be fine.
I totally sympathize with the impulse. My limbic brain is screaming that it wants to to run off into the desert. (Ironically the closest Desert has its own creepy pervasive fungi, Valley Fever).
How quickly do you feel those symptoms come on?
